The Max Payne franchise follows the story of the eponymous police officer starting with the death of his wife and new born daughter. Those events hunt him through his quest for revenge (Max Payne) and even after that, when he is trying to live a normal life after all the turmoil created by his vengeance (Max Payne 2).
A movie based on the series starring Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne, Mila Kunis as Mona Sax, and Ludacris as Jim Bravura hit theaters on October 17th 2008, and is rated PG-13.
