Max: The Curse of Brotherhood - Review
I have downloaded and finished this game in 3 nights for a combination of around 8-10 hours and enjoyed every minute. This game is currently an Xbox One exclusive but I would not doubt it will hit other markets soon. This game is based off of the mobile game call Max & The Magic Marker where you draw with a marker to solve platformer puzzles. This game is similar but instead of drawing shapes you get different magic marker power throughout the game and can change nature elements to help you solve different puzzles. For example in designated spots you can create earth pillars to climb to the next objective. The puzzles are not too difficult but some require a little thinking and the harder ones are more about timing and sequence. There are a few bonus items to collect so playing though a few of the levels more than once may be needed but in all replay ability comes in the form of letting others play it and see how long it takes them to figure out the puzzles you already know the solution too. The graphics and sound are what help to sell this game. Although it is a platformer the landscape makes you wish you could move forward and backwards as great detail has been put into the world. The only problems with the game I had were some of the cut scenes felt laggy but that may have just been the animation style they were trying for. When a level ends there are some graphic anomalies but none of this affects the game play. If you got a few bucks to spare and want a nice looking casual kid friendly game then pick it up. I give it 3.8 magic markers out of 5.
