May from the Pokémon anime, she is the female trainer the player can choose to be in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. In the anime she competes in Pokémon contests rather than battling gym leaders.
May is the playable female character of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. If playing as a male, May will appear as the daughter of Professor Birch.
In the Pokémon anime, May's father is Norman, the gym leader of Petalburg City. In this way she is the same as the player character in Ruby/Sapphire.
