A real-time strategy game set in the BattleTech universe developed by FASA Interactive.

Overview


MechCommander 2 was the second game of the short-lived MechCommander series developed by FASA Interactive and published by Microsoft for the Windows PC Platform in 2001.  Commonly heralded as a real-time tactics game, it featured player control of BattleMechs from FASA's BattleTech universe in a third-person isometric view.  The title featured both a single player campaign and light multiplayer elements.

Plot Summary


MechCommander 2 put the player in the shoes of a mercenary commander able to communicate with his BattleMech pilots and give them orders.  The mercenaries were hired to work for House Steiner on the planet Carver V initially, but as the story progresses the mercenary unit works with all of the major BattleTech houses.

Source Code Release


On August 18th, 2006 Microsoft released the source code of MechCommander 2 as a demonstration of the Microsoft XNA MSBuild tool.
