Pretty cool news that directed my attention to this game.
Crytek GmbH (“Crytek”) is excited to reveal that Piranha Games’ recently announced premium free-to-play game MechWarrior® Online™ (http://www.mwomercs.com) will be powered by the all-in-one game development solution CryENGINE®3.
I have to say that now this game is on my watch list. F2P helps, too.

Looks promising if they don't make it obnoxious like other freemium games. I.E having a disposable income gives a grossly unfair advantage. Not happy about the skill tree nonsense either, balancing a game with customizable mechs will be hard enough adding a skill tree could make it ungodly broken.

so if I read the specs correctly on CryEngine3, that means I'll have to drop roughly $150 if I want to play this game.

I love me some Mechwarrior, but man, that's a lot of cash just for one game.

Since the NDA lifted today I thought I'd comment on this. I've been in the closed beta since June and I have to say that the game is really fun and coming along well. It's a beta so there are some balance issues but I think they are on the right track. Being a cryengine 3 game it doesn't take a high spec system. Also the F2P aspect doesn't seem like it will be pay to win. Paying just seems to take out a lot of the grind earning money to buy/upgrade mechs.
