When a peacekeeping effort between Dr. Light and Dr. Wily go haywire, it's up to Mega Man (who now has the ability to slide under obstacles) and his robotic companion Rush to traverse the universe and defeat the Robot Masters in the third installment of the Mega Man series.
It's very much debatable. 3 is probably the easiest one. None of the stages are particularly difficult and any troubles with bosses are easily mitigated by the fact that you can carry 9 e-tanks at once.
But yeah, the first two Mega Men were harder than 3. To this day I don't think I've ever beaten the first one. I think I've beaten all the other ones that I've played, even 9.
Somebody hasn't played very many video games. It's not as easy as 5 but it isn't that difficult. If you're already stuck on Hard Man then have fun with Gemini Man or the revisited stages!
Have you beat Magnet Man? And used his weapon on this guy?
Every Mega Man boss has a weakness to another boss's weapon. So you beat whichever boss you can, use its weapon on the next boss, use that weapon on the next boss, etc., 'til they're all dead.
"What? That sounds like bad game design!" Well... maybe now, but remember that back then, getting your choice of 8 stages was pretty awesome, and memorization was often the name of the game. It sits right next to difficulty as far as traits that you can expect games from that period to have.
I'm not as fond of 3 as some people are, and I do find it to have some of the more annoying enemy types/placements in any of the early games. It is far from impossible though and could be seen as easy when compared to the first game in the series.
Mega Man 3 is my favorite of the original games and one of my all time favorite video games ever, and I agree it can be a little hard, like all the classic Mega Man games.
I beat it when I was around 10 years old and play it too completion every year on my birthday as tradition.
Also, Hard Man is a terrible name. Jackhammer Man would have worked better. Or Fist Man. Or... something else we can giggle at that's ever so slightly dirty / sexual sounding.
How is it easy, bosses hit you for literally a quarter of your health bar.
It's the dark souls of NES games.
What now?
Not to be a dick or anything, but have you played many NES games? Mega Man 3 might be difficult, but it was fairly easy in comparison to a lot of games from that era. Then again, you compare it to dark souls and that game is not very difficult either. Both DS and Mega Man are about observing patterns, memorizing them, then executing what you learned.
Edit: Your comparison to Battletoads leads me to believe you played the game on an emulator. Save states and a lack of input lag make Battletoads an easier game when you play it on an emulator.
I hate the revisited stages because I can never remember what Mega Man 3 weapons the Mega Man 2 bosses are weak against. I also think the part where you use Rush Jet and have to collect weapon energy that doesn't respawn and if you fail that section once there's no way to proceed so you just have to kill yourself, is pretty dumb.
Otherwise it's pretty good and not that hard. I can beat Magnet man and Top Man consistently without exploiting their weaknesses.
And, well, yeah. Games were hard back then. By contrast they weren't very long, but they took a long time to beat, if that was your goal. You see people speedrunning things like Castlevania and Contra and it turns out those are basically 15 minute long (short...?) games.
