So I've been looking over the Mega Man game pages and I'm a little confused. Here, it says that MM2 is "generally considered the best game in the series" but on the MM3 page it says that it is considered the best game in the series (both might be inaccurate if MM9 is as awesome as everyone says it is).

So this is kinda an informal poll. Which classic Mega Man game is "generally considered the best in the series"?

For the record, I haven't ever been a huge Mega Man fan, I'm more of a Metroid person myself, but I have enjoyed the games in the franchise that I've played, and I plan on getting MM, MM2 and MM9 on the VC in the near future.

I believe most people consider Mega Man 2 to be the best in the series.

I think I'm a minority here but I think MM3 was the best!

Of the NES games? 2 is generally considered to be the best.

I think after taking off the nostalgia hat Mega Man X would be considered the best of the entire series, at least it is in my book. 

Mega Man 2 is considered the best, with a group of people who love the 3rd game.  9 is pretty awesome, though.

Time and nostalgia are odd things.
Had Megaman 9 came out in the days of the SNES it would've been ridiculed. A decade and a half later, it's lauded.
That's a different topic altogether though, I guess.

I liked the X series the most.

The majority say Mega Man 2... and I'm going with the majority on this one.

Although, Mega Man 9 might now be in the top 3 just behind 3 and ahead of 4.

As far as a "general consensus", you will never know, but most of the industry (from what I've heard) is split on Megaman 2 or 3. Mostly because most people either started with 2 or 3, and then played the other one.  At the very least this shows just how great both games are in the public eye.

My favorite? Well, in the 1-8 series (well, 9 now), I would have to say Mega Man 2 is my favorite. My order goes like this:

Mega Man 2
Mega Man 1
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 7

(Those are My top five, with the rest following)

Mega Man 4
Mega Man 6
Mega Man 5
Mega Man 8

As for the X series. I love the Mega Man X series. I think the first one is the best, with all the Snes entries being great, but anything after that not really worth checking out...

I haven't played 2 in eons but from what I remember as a kid, among the regular stages (before you go on to do the WIly shit) The Crash Man stage (Crash Man as a boss, especially) and Heat Man's disappearing / reappearing blocks gave me the biggest headaches.

Well, Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 are both generally considered to be the best games, but more so with Mega Man 2. But if you ask me, I would say Mega Man 4 is the best one. Also, here's I rank the Mega Man games from the original series from my favorite to least favorite:

Yes, they both are, but like I said, Mega Man 2 is more so generally considered the best though.
