Mega Man X and Zero once again must stop Sigma's plot to destroy the world. Mega Man X5 introduced new side-characters and features to the Mega Man X series.

Overview

Megaman X5 takes place in the year 21XX, the reploid wars have just passed and the world seems to be going along great, until a terrorist group takes over the lunar colony known as Eurasia and sets it on a crash course with earth. Mega man and Zero are asked to deal with Eurasia and the tools that they are given are a broken and old laser and a space shuttle. In order to use the laser zero and Megaman have to go to several locations and ask for help from the owners of the items necessary to repair the laser. Unfortunately all of these reploids have been infected with the Sigma virus and are hell-bent on preventing zero and X from getting the items they need.

Menu system

At the beginning of the game, you can choose from several levels where the parts you need are located. A timer until Eurasia collides with Earth is located at the bottom of the screen, but fret not, the game is not timed. The only way you won't make it in time is if you leave levels. From the level selection screen you can push left to take you to the parts selection screen, or you can push right to take you to a list of reploids rescued screen.

parts

Parts are obtained from various reploids that you save as well as from enemies you kill. There are parts specifically for Zero and specifically for X, while some are shared between the two.

Rescue Reploids

Reploids are found in levels, easily identifiable from the large "HELP" text over their head. Their are many benefits to rescuing reploids, they may give you health and energy, or they may give you an part, or nothing at all.

Special moves

After each boss is slain you obtain a new move for Zero and X, usually for x it is some new kind of blaster, while for Zero it is a new kind of jump or ability with his sword. Each move costs energy, energy can be found off of slain enemies, it can also be filled up in an energy gauge(found throughout the game's levels) and used at your leisure. After you kill certain bosses you will have the necessary moves to begin to look for X's hidden armour.

Hidden Armour

X has three sets of hidden armour in the game and Zero has one. The first set of armour that you will get for X is the "falcon armour", it enables X to fly and to have an move that will wipe all enemies off the screen, there is a trade off for these things though, now special moves cost more energy. The second set of armour for X is the "invincible armour", with it X can walk over spikes and has a massive amount of damage reduction, this armour is considered the worst by many though because there is no special move and you cannot use any of X's special attacks with it. The final set of X's armour is the "ultimate armour", it can hover like the falcon armour but it cannot fly, it has X's most powerfull special attack and you can use special attacks with it. Zero's armour has no name, it simply makes his sword more powerfull. The first two sets of X's armour are found throughout all the stages of the game, divided into head, arm, body, and feet sections. The final set of armour for X is found down a gap that looks like it will kill you if you continue to fall down it but it leads to a small alcove that will grant you the final set of armour. Be warned though, this last armour upgrade is for both characters, it is how you either upgrade Zero or get X's ultimate armour. You can only pick one so choose wisely.
