Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Game » consists of 15 releases. Released Nov 17, 2004

Glad (and not surprised given his playstyle) that Drew found the "holding down the MG trigger yelling" thing because that was one of the coolest touches in the game.

I only used that weapon when fighting the shagohod, and thought those screams came from Volgin.

@lead_dispencer: The Fury is definitely the toughest of the bosses. He's sort of random if you don't know how he reacts to things.

Huh, guess I must of found a good pattern for him, he's one of the few bosses I feel confident against in this game.

Now that he got the M63 I don't think he'll have too much trouble with Volgin, if he uses it against him that is. I am still worried about The Fury though, even though I have played through Snake Eater three times since Metal Gear Scanlon was announced, I still can't seem to get a good handle on him.

@village_guy: Damn it i forgot to pick up the m63! of well i have the patriot from completing the game prior.

My problem with the fury is he would do his flying around shit and land close to me that even if im sneaking he still sees/hears me and then he bum rushes me and shoots his flaming fire shit and im getting upset. seriously I used all 10 life meds in one fight. then i died rolling of the ledge (quite embarrassing from a big time mgs fan I muyst admit)

Im doing another playthrough. This time im trying to do stamina kills for the boss fights and yea fury was rough. the end was fun and intense still! The fear and pain were easy. Im sure the fury will be Drew's revolver ocelot from the firs MGS. Also, I didnt notice how closely all the boss fights stack up between cutscenes. If you move fast you can encounter 3 within 2 hours of gameplay.

    @drew: good luck!

@lead_dispencer: You're not really supposed to sneak around with the Fury in the same way you would normally. Just run around and try to flank him.

The key to The Fury is to knife the living crap out of him. Does wonders. Of course, just shooting him is alright too.

Don't remember the Fury being particular difficult. He's probably my favorite fight/death in MGS3. Exploding into a screaming fireball face.

The Fury is the only boss I died to in my MGS play through - and I died probably 3 or 4 times to him. Best wishes Drew

Get behind The Fury - Mosin Nagant 2/3 shots. Repeat until he starts flying, run towards exit door, as it's safest area. Good camo, keep prone, mosin nagant when he's in sight. Literally takes about 5 shots.

Playing with the poor framerate of the 3DS version + fire everywhere killing the framerate further + trying to aim with the ABXY face buttons + going for a non-lethal kill + not having his camo yet = The Fury suuucks.

There are lots of reasons why the 3DS version of MGS3 is really, really good (if it weren't for the framerate, it'd arguably be the best version), but The Fury's fight is not one of them.

@stalefishies: If only the crouch walk that was in Snake Eater 3D made it into the HD Collection that would've been so good. So looking forward to it in MGS4 and onwards.

I am so glad Drew took to the End, my favourite boss battle ever. I remember running as fast as I can as soon as I realized he had a bead on me. Excitement no quicktime event has ever nailed.

Recently played through the Fury again and I agree, definitely one of the most challenging boss fights. SVD is the way to go! Two quick headshots takes off like a fifth of his health. You just have to avoid getting detected, find the corridor he's walking around, get your two shots and relocate as quickly as you can.

I can't imagine taking him down non-lethally without the mosin nagant.

I wonder if he'll finish both 3 and 4 in time for September's release. Never played 4, does anyone with a more informed view have an opinion?

Asking because I may just end up borrowing a friends PS3 to run through 4 before starting 5.

@superkebabi: There's nothing really challenging about 4, so it would all just come down to when they decide to play it. Because of all the cutscenes it'd probably end up being longer than the MGS3 playthrough will end up being, but not by much.

this has sent me back to MGS3 for the second time in a year and I'm playing it on European Extreme for the first time - really loving it so far. Have played this game maybe 10 times since the original release but for whatever reason assumed it would be too hard / annoying with that setting, and I still have nightmares of MGS2's late game on EE.

Sadly, this might be where I have to stop watching Dan Eater. I fucking love it but I have to take a bit of a break. You see; while I was able to complete MGS1 & 2 before Dan and Drew did, I have only made it to The End fight in MGS3. Unfortunately, I was not able to bring my PS2 back to uni. with me, so I will have to wait a few weeks to complete it. As much as I'd enjoy seeing Dan and Drew's reactions, i want to experience what happens first. I think I can a few weeks without a MGScanlon, and hell, at least it won't be wrecking my sleep schedule anymore.

@nasher27: I did, it probably has a slower reload than the SVG as I could only get one shot off before he moved. All for the sake of a camo for another run XD.

I can't wait for the conclusion. I'm experiencing MGS3 for the first time here and it's great. Why are MGS3, MGSPW, and MGS5 all called metal gear SOLID? Because they don't even have SOLID Snake in them...? The pre Sold Snake ones should be Metal Gear Boss games or something... right?

"Solid" doesn't actually reference Solid Snake entirely. The original reason for adding Solid(or at least part of it) was that it was in 3D now as opposed to Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2, therefore it was a more akin to a solid, three dimensional object. Also, brand recognition. Metal Gear Solid will just probably make more money than Metal Gear. Don't ask me why.

@indeedcodybrown: The reason the series is called Metal Gear "Solid" was because of the transition from the 2D MSX games, to the polygonal games. Where the game is represented as "solid" polygons. Of course it's also relational to Solid Snakes code name. But the subtitle to Metal Gear 2 was "Solid Snake". Furthermore, Solid Snake has been called Solid Snake since the first game. And technically, the word "solid" in the first MGS games is actually the subtitle of the game. It should be represented with a colon. Metal Gear: Solid.

This gives them plenty of time to relax and / or smoke whilst MGS4 installs. Actually, that game presents a problem. There could be whole episodes devoted to mission briefings.
