Subsistence is pure substance, a game you can’t miss out on!
Metal Gear has just taken itself to an all new high with the expansion pack of Snake Eater. Subsistence contains 2 discs, disc 1: Subsistence and disc 2: Persistence. Disc 1 features the entire Snake Eater game with an all new 3-D camera.
Snake Eater is very realistic in its own way. It is survival of the fittest and Snake is just the man for the job. On the survival viewer screen you have a backpack which contains all of your stuff such as weapons and accessories. Food lets you replenish your stamina. Although it doesn’t just pop out from the sky, so you have to kill snakes, rats, frogs or whatever there is surrounding you for a nice meal. Sounds disgusting but makes sense when you’re on a mission in a wild jungle. In the cure section, you can mend broken bones and fractures, apply ointment to burns, stitch up wounds and so on and so forth. But no stealth mission would be complete if you were not wearing the proper attire. On the camouflage section, you can pick your attire which best blends with the environment.
Graphically, the game impressed me, so did the sound and the feel of the game. Gameplay was innovative; story was probably a bit vague at times if you’re new to the series. The game is fairly long with some tight situations here and there but fairly easy nonetheless. Snake Eater is an unforgettable experience with some absorbing sequences, and it is definitely stealth action at its best.
Disc 2 is basically the bonus disc. It features Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, but its not really worth checking it out unless you’re an avid MGS fan. There is also a mini-game titled Snake vs. Monkey. It’s pretty fun and really shows the funnier side of Snake. But the real deal with Disc 2 is online play. Metal Gear is now online and it sounds really fun. Sadly I don’t have the luxury of getting an adapter and playing online, but the teaser video at the beginning of Disc 2, shows gameplay on online mode and it looked really good. So if you have online capabilities then don’t hesitate to buy Subsistence.
With that said, Subsistence is a brilliant game which will really appeal to any gamer, and a game which you can’t miss out on.
