Am I the only one who was pretty annoyed by the fact that the GB crew didnt even mention the MGS collection in their best HD collection awards, I mean this a really good HD remake, packs a ton of value, and the games themselves are still playable and enjoyable by today's standards not to mention that the HD collection drastically improved one game, Peace Walker, and made that game available on home consoles where it was originally a handheld only game. The MGS HD collection was certainly among the best HD remakes of the year and while I'm not saying it should have won the award necessarily, it seems as though the staff just forgot about it's existence, I mean it certainly warranted discussion, but it wasn't even mentioned

MGS: HD collection not even mentioned in the awards?
@phrali: i disagree, I never played these games when they were new and enjoyed the games quite a bit. Also the same could be said for Halo: CE's cutscene's as well
I didn't finished MSG 3 when it was new, and, really, they could've tweaked the controls a little bit. It's cheesy. Playable, yes. But cheesy.@phrali: i disagree, I never played these games when they were new and enjoyed the games quite a bit. Also the same could be said for Halo: CE's cutscene's as well
I guess they didn't feel it deserved to be part of deliberation. Crazy... They are clearly on drugs. Probably also getting paid off. Must be a conspiracy.

@BrockNRolla: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/metal-gear-solid-hd-collection to completely ignore a game that has a 91 on metacritic in the relatively small field of HD remakes is a bit crazy

Which of Halo's cut scenes were cheesy? It's not like they're an important part of that game anyway, where as in MGS, the gameplay very much takes a back seat to them.
Plus Halo CE was a full remake, not just an HD port.
@BrockNRolla: The field of judging which HD Remake is the best is pretty objective, They didnt even mention it, yet they seriously considered the Resident Evil 4 remake, which as a remake is poor and not to mention that two other websites have given it the best HD collection award. I'm not saying it should of won, but it bore mentioning, it'd be as if they, in their GOTY discussion did not even mention Uncharted 3, sure it might not win but it bears discussion and is an important game
They should have gone over all of them. I mean, the games were so few, and the time to discuss them nearly unlimited. I for one think they should have dedicated a whole podcast to the award. Nay, a whole podcast to MGS: HD Collection! Ignoring it was a travesty. Their opinions must include those of the majority, even if they disagree! How else can we take GB seriously?

followed.
Those games weren't released originally in 2011. I feel this way about all HD collections in top 10 lists for years.
I just listened to that podcast and I was also surprised to here not mention from them about MGS what so ever. The Metal Gear Solid series is probably my favorite franchise of all time and MGS3 is probably my favorite GAME of all time. Am I the only one who was blown away at how good snake eater looks??? My jaw hit the floor in the first cut scenes...but I understand that MGS is just not for everyone. I personally love sitting through hours and hours of cut scenes and dialog in the MGS series. I cant get enough of that!! While I am disappointed that it wasnt even discussed, I'm still very happy that this collection even exists. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back my ultimate MGS run of MGS3>Peace Walker>MG1>MG2>MGS1>MGS2>MGS4. oh hellfuckyes.
Until you pointed it out I didn't even notice. I think my brain just assumed they mentioned it briefly lol. I still haven't gotten the chance to dig back into them like I really wanted to, or the art book (but from the little bit I've flipped through it, it is a damn sexy book XD )
I got the HD collection for Christmas and have had a blast playing through it. As a kid, I skipped through a lot of the cut scenes and codec, but have decided to go through and watch each cut scene and at least read through the codec. It's been really enjoyable so far. I just finished MGS 2 and enjoyed it much more then I remember back when it came out in 2001.
Just started MGS 3, and excited to try out Peace Walker for the first time.
I was surprised that it wasn't at least mentioned, especially since The Ico/SOTC Collection won partly due to its value: 2 games for $40. Say what you want about the Metal Gear Solid series, this collection features three solid games for $40, available for both PS3 and 360. Lastly: TRANSFARRING
I think the differentiating factors is how much was changed for the rerelease. From what I understand, Ico and Shadow were both much better versions than what was originally came out and Halo was pretty substantially modified and were celebrations for those games.
MGS 2 and 3 are nearly identical to their Substance and Subsistence versions, even down to menu sound effects being included for when the game checked for memory card slots, which the PS3 and 360 consoles don't have. Even the menu's You may like the games themselves more than the others, but that's not what the category was- it was best HD remake.
Did they even found the time to play it?
I wouldn't see them adding it to the category if none of them had played it in some way.
I thought it was weird this game completely came and went under the radar as well. I saw literally no hype for it whatsoever, especially compared to Halo Anniversary which basically came out at the same time.
It's the only game I really wanted for Xmas (although admittedly I already bought most of the heavy hitters prior to that). I actually haven't started it yet but I'm excited to, the last MG game I played was MGS on the PS1.

Well the new release of Halo was more than just a "We have turned up the resolution and ported these games to current gen consoles" so I think it's fair that got more recognition.
These are just another set of effortless HD collections.

Or this:
MGS: HD is amazing. Its should have at least been nominated but none of the guys played it (except for Jeff who played a few minutes for the Quicklook, but he doesn't like those games to begin with so...)
EDIT: AHHHHH IT SHOULD HAVE WON!!!
It would have been pointless to discuss it... Which award exactly did it have any hope of getting?
Just because you like a game does not mean everyone else has to be exited about it. The MGS 1-3 series is a product of its time and hardly relevant at this point in award considerations.
I don't remember any of them ever saying anything about playing it, and if they didn't play it, they can't seriously consider it for end-of-the-year deliberations.
Have you guys seen this? http://www.formspring.me/jeffgerstmann
I never knew it existed, i was literally reading through Jeffs replies for ages. One of the questions is about MGS HD collection.
When discussing "Best HD Remake", did you forget the Metal Gear Collection; was it just not played long enough by enough people that you could form an argument about it; or was it just not up to par enough to warrant mentioning?
Definitely didn't forget it. Definitely don't think it belongs on that list.

Best HD Collection was a category, and the OPs question was why didn't it even get mentioned?Which award exactly did it have any hope of getting?
As a few posters said, the MGS HD collection are pure remakes. Ico/SotC, and Halo had rework along with the remake. I guess I understand that it's just not Halo being Halo that silenced the MGS HD collection as a mention..if I want to be good about it.
Personally I enjoy the overwrought/overbombed cut-scenes of MGS, that's part of the package. On the other hand I have now heard way too clearly the 'Entropy' cut-scene (that Silent Librarian or cartographer needs to be more silent) in Halo. Sooo saaaaad.....
But I have both MGS HD and Halo HD, so what the hell. And the Halo rework(you can check it on the fly) is good.
