A few days ago, a mysterious live stream appeared on Konami's youtube channel. The live stream was timed to start on Christmas, and was slated to be the latest edition of the Kojistation, a webcast series from Kojima productions. JunkerHQ.net reported that Kojima was teasing "new TPP info" for the Christmas Kojistation. The hype train was about to leave the station and the hope was that there would be a release date for TPP announced.

The big announcement was instead that MGSV: The Phantom Pain would feature chicken hats.

If the player gets spotted too many times they will receive this chicken hat that increases the camo index. It makes Snake harder to spot as enemy soldiers will assume that it's a chicken. Apparently the hat's wings will also have a function. Also available in multiplayer and there are plans for selling it as merch.

The chicken hat will be visible in most cut-scenes also.

I guess fried-chicken is a popular item for Christmas in Japan?Kojima likes nothing more than to ruse his fan base huh.

Seeing that picture makes me think of my home town in GA for some reason. The fact that they made a big deal about a chicken hat being in game just makes me look forward to that game even more. Just how weird will it get I wonder?

@corevi : @thunderslash I think it's important to point out that the camo-index is back. Ground zeroes didn't give people any reason to assume that there would be different outfits / camouflage in MGS5.

MGS4's automatic camouflage system seems to be too futuristic for 1984 , and that one simplified the camouflage system from 3 & peace walker so that people wouldn't have to go through menu's to swap costumes. Maybe they found a better way to swap costumes on the go for MGS5.

@onemanarmyy: In the TGS demo they showed that you could call in a supply drop of a new outfit.

Kojima why do you do the things you do? You had to make an event out of a chicken hat. Why

@shindig: he makes fun of everything equally and his games have very unique humor that you would never see in similarly big budget productions elsewhere. His sense of humor is exactly the one thing that shouldn't change as it really helps to define Metal Gear as something more than just another action game.

Noone has mentioned Kojima scrolling through the Community Hub for Steam yet, which included a .gif of BB throwing a magazine at Chico, parodies of Gabe as Liquid, Solid, and Solidus, and a forum post titled "What the fuck happened to Hayter?!"

I think it's safe to say that even in Ground Zeroes there's a camo index, it's just that it isn't surfaced to the player.
