Sticking to the Boss, and its bloody hard too going for the non lethal kill. I also loved fighting the fury. In MGS4, its not really a boss battle but the Raiden and Vamp Fight looks awesome if you manage to watch it.

As much as I hate the franchise, I also have to say Psycho Mantis.  It was seriously the only one that caught my attention and made me really get into the game.  The rest of the series just wasn't much to me.

Psycho Mantis for how trippy it was at the time.  Blew my mind.

the last fight/battle with ocelot in MGS4 just great and a great way to finish off the series.

For me it's between The End from MGS3 and Crying Wolf from MGS4. I guess they're similar in the way you have to deal with them, but I have to go with The End. I had a much more enjoyable time fighting with him then I did Crying Wolf.

Metal Gear Solid - Psycho Mantis
Sons of Liberty - Solidus
Snake Eater - The End
Guns of the Patriots - Laughing Octopus/Crying Wolf

And then, if you want to get real in depth:

Metal Gear - Big Boss
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake - Predator/Gray Fox
Portable Ops - Gene
AC!D - Vince
AC!D2 - Metal Gear
Ghost Babel - Marionette Owl

Yeah. Why do people like The Boss' boss battle so much? I respect her as a character - she is one of my favorites - but it is not the best in the series, nor is it the best in Snake Eater. Psycho Mantis' boss fight is memorable and notable in that everybody knows about it. Technically, The End was outstanding - but the best emotionally, and story wise? Sons of Liberty was and still is my favorite, and I did like me some Solidus. He gets my vote.

I enjoyed battling the urge to scream every time a cut scene crept past the twenty minute mark in 4. I kid, I kid!

I loved the concept behind The End, but the actual fight wasn't nearly as cool.
I loved fighting all the RAYs in MGS2 if that counts.

I can name the one's I didn't like......... but truth is, the ones I didn't like were a little frustrating, still nothing compares to the genius of finding the weak spots of bosses.

Gota go with The End

You could eat his parrot to piss him off. I defy you to find another boss fight that you can do that in!

"Psycho Mantis has to be the best boss battle in video game history. It may seem just slightly interesting now, but at the time, it was a very big deal."
"Has to be the best in history" is kind of a borderline authoritarian statement. That fight had a few cool gimmicks (maybe you could call them motifs) but I don't think it's really had an influence on much since.

The End might have been the most daring idea for a boss fight in the series - most designers wouldn't run the risk of a boss fight being boring (although it didn't really turn out to be).

But I think I'd settle on the Harrier. It can kick your ass really easily, but if you know what you're doing you can get through without a scratch.

Haha, posting in the PS3 forum with a Master Chief av makes me feel like a Klansman at an NAACP meeting.*

No hate guys, but I'll be shuffling off to the 360 forum.

I have to go with the final boss battle of the entire Solid series.  Liquid, Ocelot and Snake.  I started playing Metal Gear games in the 80's.  Then the rivalry between Liquid, Ocelot, and Solid started.  That final fight was something I had been wanting for many, many years!

Finally getting my hands on Liquid and Ocelot... AT THE SAME FRIGGIN TIME!  I loved it!  Favorite boss battle ever, out of every game I have ever played.  I have never been a part of any other fight, that was so built up.  So desired, and so damn great from every view point.

It went so far beyond what I had been craving for all those years.  It was pure perfection.  That I will never forget.

Psycho Mantis was packed with the most creativity any game developer had been able to shoehorn into a boss up to its time (some would argue that's still true). The mind reader (or memory card reader) gets my vote.

"I see you like Castlevania..."

The End. I had one tranq dart left and I had to wait until his stamina was low enough. It was worth it.

It has to be the end from MGS3 because it was the first boss in a long time that wasnt just shoot that dude a million times or shoot that dude in a specific area and then shoot him in another area until he falls over. It felt like a proper sniper match... Kinda

All time.  It would have to be "The End" in Metal Gear Solid 3.  I have never played a boss battle quite that insane as far as gameplay, strategy and entrenching.  I mean that game really just blew my mind as far as how surreal everything felt...and it was on the PS2 which at that point in late late 2004 was starting to show its age compared with the GC and Xbox.

I'd have to agree there, The  Boss fight in the flower field was amazing.

After that I'd have to say the battle with Ray, so good.

Rex vs Ray was epic.... I'm a mech lover so i loved it. Gundam developers should take some notes on how mech should move

I would have to say that The End battle is pretty epic.  In fact, that whole game is something else. My favorite of the four "Solid" titles. Anyway, I couldn't think of any other battle that could really compare. I'm pretty sure it's the only boss battle where you can still use stealth to sneak up on your enemy and take them out. Fantastic. Simply fantastic.

Decoy Octopus...

But in all seriousness. I have never had such a feeling when fist fighting "Liquid" Ocelot in 4. When they stabbed each other in the neck, then the camera pans around, and there health bars fill up.... Epic. The next two would be Rex vs Ray, and Psycho Mantis in 1.
