It's a shooter. A shooter with upgradable weapons. No RPG-in' to be found here... move along, move along....

Im pretty sure its a shooter with some RPG elements, and alternate endings.

A shooter with RPG elements... a bit like Stalker in a narrow hallway.

Both, like fallout 3

We need more people to answer the same fucking question in a different way.  Quick get your thesaurus!

I read it's more like Half Life 2 and Call of Duty than STALKER. I haven't played it... yet.

Metro 2033 is a Linear Dungeon Crawler FPS

as opposed to Stalker's Open World Survival FPS

I would still call them both RPG hybrids to some extent.

Attempt at sarcasm is unsuccessful.

Once again, what sort of roleplaying elements are in this game? I've been into System Shock 2 lately, and so I'm curious about what upgrades you can get and what you can upgrade.

There are no RPG elements in the game. You buy stuff from time to time and that's it.
There's no character progression, no choices (well maybe a couple), no free roaming and no uppgrades. This is nothing like System Shock.
It's just a shooter. A very immersive and unique one, but still a shooter.

@Napalm: None. Its a shooter, quite an immersive and atmospheric one at that, but still a shooter. It's about as much an RPG as Bioshock is. Which is to say it isn't. No matter what people say. Vague morality mechanics do not an RPG make.

EDIT: Reading fail by me. Handily scooped by LeBart . Always read the second page....always.

Shooter.  I don't see any RPG elements in the game.

The devs made a conserted effort of getting players to use various stealth features of the game(see the achieves): headlight on/off, throwing knives, lights that you can blow out(lamps)/turnoff/pop, pneumatic guns, silenced rifles, etc..  so this is a survival game featuring shooting AND stealth people.
