Metro Last Light is up for $20 in Steam's midweek madness thing. This game is going to be sitting pretty high on my list of favorites for the year and at $20 I see no reason to pass on this unless you don't have the hardware to run it well.

Don't Be a Terrible Person, Get This for $20 on Steam
I see no reason to pass on this
Because, by the time I get around to it, it will probably be available for $5

Woo, thanks for the heads up! I set Steam to load up directly into my library and I haven't been great about checking for occasional deals. I would have missed this entirely! I had about $10 in my wallet from selling cards so this became an instant purchase.
I never finished 2033 because my motherboard got fried while I was playing that and by the time I got the PC back up and running I felt I needed to start all over but had too many other games to play and it got left behind. Now my only question is do I go back and start 2033 over before playing Last Light or just jump straight into LL?

This argument rings true for me, especially saying that I still have to play the first.

I went straight into Last Light without bothering with the first game. You're not going to get lost, the intro covers the broad strokes that you need to know.
Man, this reminds me I need to check out that DLC.
I would get it if it's on sale, the DLC only has one good mission.

Or I wait a few more months, during which I play games from my vast Steam backlog, and then I buy it for like, 5$.
Meh, I use that logic with a bunch of other games too because I'm in a similar situation, I just think that this one is worth a whole lot more than the price that it's at which like most things is just my opinion.
Is this one of them shoot 'ems? I'm not too keen on shoot 'ems.
I'm not too keen about your face
@colourful_hippie: The first was pretty underwhelming and Patrick didn't say the gameplay in the second is anything special either so nah. Let's say I paid my dues by buying the first one brand new, day of release for $65.
I got it for $0.01, Still have not played it. Also got the 1st Game for FREE on Steam. I have payed $0.01 for both games LOL
This is still my GOTY choice, and is well worth $20. It's been a long time since I've gotten so much out of a game. It was an emotional roller coaster and may have actually helped me with my fear of spiders. It looks and runs better than Metro 2033. Also, if you don't buy it, this might happen to you:

Gameplay in Last Light is a huge step up from the last game, maybe it isn't "special" when compared to the other heavy hitter FPS games out there. This game is more about the tone and setting
Don't worry, I'm a great person. I pre-ordered it. If anyone who hasn't played it yet, 20 bucks is well worth it.
I did. However, I hear there are big spiders in this, and now I really don't want to play it....
The more like scorpions than spiders really...

That's actually a little better to me for some reason.
@colourful_hippie: I'VE PAID MY DUES C.HIPPIE!

I already have the game on PS3, and bought the season pass, but I still went ahead and bought the PC version. That's how great this game is.
I played the first couple levels of 2033 and didn't think much of it. I reinstalled it months ago thinking i should probably give it a second chance and also generally should try to actually play and finish most of the games i buy. Hasn't happened yet though and at this point i doubt it ever will. Time is definitely running away from this game.

zero reason

I would only suggest trying the new one if you really, really like the tone and atmosphere of that game's universe because the visuals and gameplay are noticeably improved in the sequel.
If I didn't buy a weaker laptop (I needed a smaller one) because of school I probably would have jumped on this, but now I can't even run it. I've barely played the first one so I can wait until I beat that.

The gameplay is borderline broken at times in the first one. I beat it because I made an iron rule to myself that I will at least finish every game I buy, no matter what. This has been a really tough rule but at least when I criticize something I can rest easy knowing I experienced the entire package for better or worse.

Story of my Steam library, unfortunately... except that I don't actually get around to most of it.
OK here's a question that will determine whether I get this or not. Metro 2033's english voice acting was utter garbage but at least it had russian VO which added alot to the atmosphere of the game. However the subtitles were only restricted for the main character. Is that the same for Last Light as well?
I created this page. I'm already a terrible person.

A whole lot more ambient dialogue is translated in the subtitles but not all of it.
I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON!!!
Oh the terribleness!
Watch be super terrible.
*me
For those on the fence, LL doesn't have quite the same levels of atmosphere I loved about the first one, and the story isn't nearly as good, but it definitely seems they tried to make a game that appeals to more people, and as such have lost a bit of the thing that appealed to people the most about the first game.
I dunno if that'll even help people, but I am still kind of bitter the game isn't as great as the first one.

Yeah, maybe by Christmas I'll get around to it, but right now I have enough on my plate to play. If it's on sale during the holidays I'll pick it up then.
The first metro barely runs on my machine now that i upgraded my hardware, plus i don't have 20 bux right now to spend.
I really wish they'd make a different type of game in this universe. I loved basically everything about it besides how linear it was. I guess maybe I'm really burned out on this type of shooter.
I guess I'm a terrible person then. I was going to buy it, but then I remembered that the PSN version of Brothers came out today so fuck Metro(I don't mean that, I still love you Metro).
@pimblycharles: Thats a disturbing picture you got there. Kinda neat, but disturbing.
