    The opening video with Samus being held up by a metroid and being shot with a beam by some weird creature...what is that creature?

    Are you talking about Mother Brain? At the end of Super Metroid, after you bust up her tank she comes back with a new biomechanical body. It looks something like...

    Like in the picture, Mother Brain opens up on Samus with some sort of death beam and kicks the snot out of her until the Metroid comes to the rescue.

    Yep, that be mother brain. 
    Anyone else find this to be a ridiculously short game (5 hours or so)?

    Yea I never did get back to finishing it. I loved it as a kid and after just recently finishing the entire Metroid Prime trilogy, Im in the mood for more :P

    If you get a chance to play the handheld ones, they're really good too. I've played all of them except for Metroid Prime: Hunters. I don't have a DS.

    It took me 9:30 hours, 51%, loved the story!

    I've clocked close to nine hours in Other M so far and still haven't beaten it.  I don't think I'll have a chance to play it this weekend because of PAX, but the game is definitely not something that I could see anyone rushing through on their first go.

    Really? Holy crap.  
    I only got 38% of the items, but that was more than enough to finish the game with, and I still only clocked in just over 5 hours. 
    Perhaps I did a speed run without know it. I wish mine had lasted 20hrs :(
