Near perfect
What a game, Metroid: Other M, is near perfect. The reason i say near perfect is because there are some flaws holding back what could otherwise have been a perfect game. I'm gonna avoid any kind of spoilers in this review and just talk about why Nintendo went out on a limb and allowed team ninja to do what they do best while bringing it to one of the best nintendo franchises.
Pros- story, Gameplay, mechanics, graphics, seamless cutscenes. For years the one thing lacking from metroid games is a deep story that really explains much, well they finally added a great story in and it helps with the game. The mechanics of the game are simply astounding in the sense you only use the wiimote to play and it's fairly seemless when you wanna look around you point it at the tv to look or hold it sideways to run around. The gameplay feels like it simply is a Ninja Gaiden game but improved in the sense that it seems easier to control samus than it ever did to control ryu, it may be due to the level lay out in this game too. For a wii game the graphics are pretty amazing the cutscene's are really well done and when it goes from a cutscene to the actual gameplay you tend to not realize the cutscene just finished.
Cons- Mechanics, boss fights, length. There is no way around it the mechanics of this game also cause it to be clunky during a few boss fights, it leads to some very aggravating moments. When your in the midst of fighting a bunch of enemies and have to go from holding the wiimote sideways to pointing it at the tv where you get first person view is pretty frustrating especially when it doesn't lock onto the enemy like you want it too. The other problem is the time it takes to beat it, i Wanted more once i was done 7 hours is a nice amount of time to play and im sure it may have been more but due to the fact that there are no save points at the final boss and the amount of time i spent dying due to the controls i have to go with 7 hours.
Overall impression- Like i said this is a near perfect game, if they could have fixed either the way you fight bosses or the mechanics of firing missiles i would give this game a 5 out of 5, the length of the game was a tad short but all things aside this is simple one of the best games on the wii, if not the best game out right now.
