Checkpoints

I'm currently in the process of seeing Metroid Prime fall apart in the last act, specifically the annoying trek through respawning enemies up to a multi-tiered boss with no "reasonable" checkpoints or save system. Whatever, I guess I'm forgetting how things were back then. Anyway, since I'm intending to play through the sequel at some point I have to ask: is any effort made to fix this in MP2? Are save rooms right before the bosses? Please?
