Metroid: Zero Mission is coming to Wii U's virtual console tomorrow!

I never owned this on the GBA so I'm super excited to play this, I've played every other Metroid save for this and the original (might as well play this instead though).

    Link.

Oh wow, I just listened to the Retronauts where they covered the 2D Metroids. I think I'll jump on it!

Word, never got to play this or the original Metroid and after GDQ I could go for some Metroid. There's a bunch of good stuff on that VC I've gotta try (Advance Wars, Castlevanias).

That's great news. There are a lot of great games on that system that should have been ported a long time ago

@epidehl: I also have to check out the hype behind Advance Wars. (The Castlevania GBA games are all quality though!)

When the first Advance Wars came out for the GBA, it blew my MIND. Just the sheer amount of content jammed into the cartridge made it one of those games that you could play for hours and hours, and on the go as well. Hell, it had a map editor.

So now every Metroid game of consequence is on the eShop in one way or another, right? Metroid 1, Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Fusion, and the Prime trilogy are all available.

PS, Fusion came out 14 years ago so it has now been 14 years since a 2d Metroid was made.

Zero Mission came out a about 15 months after Fusion, so technically it's only been 12 years.

Zero Mission is the only game where I have ever made any attempts at speed running or low percents or anything like that. It was great, trying to plot out routes, trying to figure out whether doing Kraid first or second was faster, etc. Completing the game without the Screw Attack or Speed Booster was a pain, but boy did it feel good when I finally pulled it off.

A real shame that this isn't on 3DS. I love my Wii U, but the fact that they keep putting all these portable games on a non-portable console is really starting to chafe.

@pkmnfrk: I agree with that. I'd much rather play it on my 3DS on my commute to work.

Its been years since I've played zero mission, but I remember it having some really cool chained Shinespark stuff. Shinesparking might be the coolest shit in all Metroid.

Bought and played a little last night. Looks and plays phenomenal, even all blown up on the TV. Never got the chance to play Zero Mission before but the thing that immediately jumped out at me is how gorgeously animated some things are. Like the Chozo statues and the save room computer.

This. I bought Metroid 2 on a whim for my 3DS and now I have...a need. A need for more Metroid on this handheld.
