Michael Tapp is the estranged son of David Tapp, the main character from the first SAW game. Michael becomes another Jigsaw victim when he leaves the scene of his father's apparent suicide. Jigsaw wishes to "educate" Michael on the repercussions of his actions against his family (and others) by trapping him within a series of dilapidated buildings that are littered with traps, tests, and trials.
Throughout most of his trials, he wears a Shotgun Vest. While wearing the vest, his spine is lined with primed shotgun shells that threaten to trigger based on radio frequencies, proximity, and other such pitfalls.
