    Overview

Since the release of the original Microsoft Flight Simulator in 1982, the title steadily increased in popularity hitting it's mark finally with the last release in the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise with Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Due to it's long running popularity, Flight Simulator has spawn an entire third party market dedicated specifically to creating and selling add-ons for the game, new scenery, new aircraft, extremely detailed airports, scenario creators and even entire fictional economies have been created for Flight Simulator, where players sign-up and fly cargo and passengers to earn virtual money that can be used to upgrade aircraft, acquire new jobs and progress in your career as a virtual pilot.

Flight Simulator X is currently the most popular civil flight sim on the market, with hundreds upon hundreds of add-ons made to enhance the flying experience. Flight Simulator X is such a well known and highly praised simulator that Lockheed Martin, the same company that brought you the F-16, acquired the source code from Microsoft for use in a new flight simulator by the title of Prepar3D, intended for use by civil pilots and instructors.
