After Midways financial troubles, Midway were bought by Warner Bros. Midway Newcastle was not part of this deal, and they sought to find a separate buyer for the studio. On 14th of January 2009 Midway Newcastle was forced to close its doors and lay off 80 employees after a buyer could not be found. Midway CEO Matt Booty travelled to the studio to break the news to the staff.
