Midway Newcastle was officially shut down this morning after they were unable to find a buyer. Midway CEO Matt Booty travelled to the studio to break the news to the 80 employees that have been made redundant.
So, presumably someone still owns the Necessary Force IP and coding, but it isn't going to be made by Midway Newcastle. This is what Necessary Force looked like:
This news is very close to home for me, since the studio is local, and in these tough economic times it's not nice to see more people lose their jobs, especially locally. This is actually the second time Midway Newcastle has faced closure. Previously they were called the Pitbull Syndicate, and when their publisher was bought out, and the publishing deal ended, they nearly went out of business then, but Midway saved them. This time they were not so lucky.
