No Debate, This Is The Greatest Beat 'em Up. Period.

I think I speak for all American gamers and Japanese gamers when I say that the first few seasons of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for SNES was the highest point of beat 'em up for a very long time.  While the Genesis version was a shitty fighting game, the SNES got a full blown adventure game that had not one but THREE ways to play.
Human Mode - Kick ass without the suit...but when shit got real you tore bitches up by showing your Morpher...which leads toooooooo ->
Ranger Mode - Double Jump, Wall Run, Weapons, and kick-assery that no one has witnessed in eons.  You tore up so many Evil Putties like they owed you money.  But that's not all, later on in the level you got to kick giant ass in your Zords.
Zord Mode - It's fucking awesome.
The only downside was the lack of Green Ranger and Ninja Ranger Suits.  I guess you can't have one without the other due to how the seasons worked out but it was still a shame.  Then again, the Green Ranger was kinda a pussy for turning into the White Ranger, and everyone knows the White Ranger was the biggest pussy out of all of them in the later seasons.
But yes, I am feeling nostalgic...and yes I have watched almost the entirety of the first few seasons of this show on the YouTube today.  Anyone else remember this game and how awesome it was?

@odintal: Bah, you're too young to understand.

Yeah, it was pretty damn good. That first boss and his his floating head will forever be ingrained into my soul.  I guess he's a fencing skeleton?

Oh fuck, I loved this game.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I don't know. I liked Maximum Carnage quite a bit. It's definitely between those two for me.

#7 Posted by rentfn (1288 posts) -

I remember really really enjoying this game.

#8 Posted by Euryb (112 posts) -

definitely a solid game. I would rent this with Kirby Super Star and Mega Man X every week when I was younger.

@Origina1Penguin: Damn, I forgot about MC.  Gahhh....Spider-Man with Venom.  But MMPR had 5 that has to win!

@KaosAngel: i was 11 when power rangers started.
i just thought it was a retarded live action rip off of voltron.
#11 Posted by HaltIamReptar (2029 posts) -

I played it on the GBA.  It was fucking rad.

#12 Posted by Demyx (3237 posts) -

I barely remember a friend playing this when i was like 6 or something.

The most incredible moment in video games I ever encountered. When I was 9, anyway.

@odintal: My mistake, you're older hah.  I guess the Rangers were like a baby's show for you then.  :P

Next time you attempt to speak for all Americans, don't bother.

#16 Posted by JJOR64 (19071 posts) -

Such a great game.    :)                On the other hand, the one based on the first movie was fucking garbage.

#17 Posted by odintal (1095 posts) -
@KaosAngel: yes, i turn 29 in about a month.
also the greatest Brawler ever was Shadow of Mystara, the Dugeons and Dragons arcade game.
#18 Posted by GlenTennis (3145 posts) -

You have no idea how much I agree with you. I played through this game every day when I first got it.

#19 Posted by vinsanity09 (212 posts) -

It was good, but not as good as Final Fight 3.

#20 Posted by CornBREDX (6080 posts) -

I found double dragon to be better as a game. Then again I never played the power rangers beat em up til I was older (i didn't have a SNES as a kid).
As for the green ranger- the green ranger was always the coolest but they ran out of footage from the original show they were taking it from so sadly it was short lived in comparison. He always had the best stories imo, though.
I didn't watch much after the first movie so I don't remember much about the white ranger so no comment there.

Crap.  Not the GBA.  I think.  Wait, maybe no.  Maybe I played some Power Rangers beat-em-up on the GB Color.  I don't fucking know.

Yeah, this game is pretty freaking awesome.

Guess who has two thumbs and still owns this game, along with the original packaging?  THIS GUY.
I still have the passcodes to every level memorized including the secret passcode where a second player can plug in a controller and battle each other in Zord mode.

I kind of liked the Batman Returns beat em up on SNES. MC was a great game as well.

For a minute I thought I owned this, before I realized that it was a different game than Mighty Morphing Power Rangers: The Movie: The Game. look really really similar in screenshots though I don't recall any Zord action in that game. strange.

I agree 100% duder

You boot up this fucker of a game and get to level 1 and you are treated to the metal-ist 16 bit song to ever hit shelves.

Also... I didn't know you could double jump...and I played the SHIT out of this game. Edit: you can't.

I thought this was about that PS1 Power Rangers game.
That has the worst game I've ever played.

#31 Posted by Liono88 (368 posts) -

That game kicked ass. So did the one on GameGear I used to spend so many childhood sick days under the blankets playing that shitte.

#32 Posted by Bucketdeth (8048 posts) -

Yeah this game was fucking awesome, the fighting game was also great.

#33 Posted by bartok (2585 posts) -

I am sorry you were unable to visit an arcade with Aliens vs. Predators or Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.  Or weren't smart enough to play Streets of Rage 2 or Batman Returns for the SNES.  My condolences good sir.
I was 11 when Power Rangers were huge and I thought it was retarded but then again I grew up on shows like MST3K, Pete and Pete, Eerie Indiana, The Tick, Ren and Stimpy, and Batman the Animated Series so my taste were kind of skewed towards things that were good.

Everyone else here grew up on those too, yet still loved Power Rangers.  You have no soul.  :|

I concur.

Holy shit, they made a mighty morphin' power rangers video game?! I would have shat my pants in excitement if I knew about this when I was a little kid.

#37 Posted by Rockdalf (1293 posts) -

I had this game and yes, it was good fun.  However, Battletoads meets Double Dragon wins by a hair.

River City Ransom will always be number one for me, followed a close second by Battle Toads.

#40 Posted by MutenMiller (217 posts) -

OH man this game was so great. I also really liked the Movie game, but only the Mega Drive/Genesis version.

#41 Posted by HawkSE (216 posts) -

I had this game, it was awesome. It hit all the right notes!
