The Demon's Souls of Third-Person Shooters?

Anyone else have a tinge of excitement for this? Most shooters don't offer much in the way of crazy new gameplay innovations these days, and super-polished games are starting to feel pretty dull. If this game can pull off drop-in multiplayer that keeps you constantly on edge, I'm sold. Knowing that an enemy could become an actual human-controlled threat at any time is awesome.

It's possible but Sqaure has never been that great outside of their RPG comfort zone, as much as I love/loved them.

It makes a ton of sense for SE to make a Matrix game, dunno why it took this long.

Man, it's a good thing Square Enix didn't develop this, then.

I don't know why people don't understand that Square Enix is a major publisher. The developer is Feelplus, who co-developed Lost Odyssey and Ninety-Nine Nights II as well as No More Heroes: Lost Paradise. They have no track record with shooters so I wouldn't expect an incredibly polished game but the concept is certainly cool.

Probably because they see Square and think "those are the guys that developed Final Fantasy!"

Just an educated guess. I'm pretty tired.

As for the topic proper, I think it will be a neat game that blends single player and multiplayer in an interesting way, which I think is great.  However, it does look a little bland. The gunplay looks kind of meh and the graphics are a bit dated looking.

Here's the thing: Demon's Souls had an original control scheme, a unique world, and a pretty terrifically menacing atmosphere to make it's unique gameplay stand out.

Meanwhile, despite a cool multiplayer layer, this looks bland as all fuck.

It's trying something unique and different (as far as I am aware), so I'll give it credit for that. But the gameplay itself is basically everything we've seen in a Third Person Shooter. My hopes aren't too high.

Demon's Souls had amazing level design.  Demon's Souls was of a genre we don't see much these days.  Demon's Souls had a learning curve that appealed to veteran gamers.  Demon's Souls had a unique theme of which we don't see anything like it in games today.  Demon's Souls innovated ways of playing games...

So you're saying mindjack isnt like demon's souls....

On subject i like the look of mindjack but i wont say its the "demon's souls of 3rd person shooters" still looks interesting though.

I have no idea how this is going to work, a story requires the player to get to the end, if it's multiplayer all the time then the hero's going to be killed all the time... isn't he?

If he's near invincible to other players then that's the least fair multiplayer ever, it's more like counter operative in perfect dark.

That's quite simple, you control other people (mindjacking them), if you lose more people than your friends then you lose that encounter, that doesn't mean the main character dies, and since he is alive you continue to the next encounter, where you continue mindjacking people. If the main character dies then that's your problem, I guess.

I agree, Japanese developers are famous for converting their weaknesses in strengths, kind of: "saving anywhere would require too much memory, so you can only save in inns, which is challenging and realistic". In this case I think the multiplayer layer is there to hide a poor AI and difficulty leveling. The environment (maps, whatever name you choose) seems to lack something, like fun. That is really hard to explain but it is something I've noticed from GeoW1 to GeoW2 too (although I still have to play GeoW2 on hardest setting), I think it is related with the feel of hazardousness in the map, very important for cover based games, if you don't need the cover the whole mechanic is rendered meaningless.
