Many years ago, the great empires of the Shadow Lords reigned supreme. Through centuries of warfare, bloodshed, and terror, their legions marched forth from smoke-belching foundries, clad in iron and steel, blood and fear left in the wake of their march. There was no hope to be had.

The great civilizations of ages past were trampled underfoot, all but forgotten to the downtrodden populace. Rebellion was a distant dream, as the seers of the dark lords rooted out dissent with rune magicks, their rituals granting them the power of farsight, ensuring the dominion of the Shadow Lords for all time. It was in this, the Age of Dominion , that the star men fell.

There are many so-called 'Roleplay' servers out there. These servers install an economy mod and call themselves Roleplay, so that they can add the RP tag to their list. These servers are not real roleplay servers.

An RP server has several aspects, including lore, plenty of characters, multiple stories, a thriving community, and above all, real roleplay. Where to find these, you ask?

    The answer is Navia.

    How to get into Navia
    1. Go to our website and make an account there. Preferably, the account name is your Minecraft username.
    2. Read these threads: (n.b. You will need an account to view some of the threads, due to forum permissions)

    3. Spend a little while thinking about your backstory. To join Navia, you need a character who you will roleplay on. You need to write a story about this characters history as a part of your application, so that the moderators can judge your writing skills. Some tips for writing a backstory:
Don't just rush into it. Think about what you are going to write before writing it. Maybe even draw up a plan to help you. If you study English, you know what I'm talking about.
Don't write it too long, or too short. You don't need to write a 3000 word epic, and if people did, the mods wouldn't have time to read them all. Make it manageable.
Don't write it too short. You need to have a decent amount of information. A good amount is about 500 words.
Don't conflict with the lore. There is a lot of lore on the forums, but the stuff you need to worry about is [http://landsofnavia.com/forum/m/1303570/viewforum/353459]here[/url]. This is the confirmed lore.
Don't give your character too prominent a place in the lore. There are people on this server who have played through this history. They never met you.
Only write backstory up to the point where Navians traveled through the portal. As a new player, you will just have passed through the portal.
If you need any help with your backstory, the fine points of lore or whatnot, then you can ask here or on this thread. Bear in mind, you will get more answers quicker posting on the Navia forums.
    4. Post your application here. Try to think about your answers, and do your best to watch your spelling and grammar. Remember, you are trying to impress the mods here. They get plenty of applications every day, if you stand out, it's better for you.
    5. Wait until a mod reads your application. This shouldn't take too long, but you can't really tell. (Whatever you do, DO NOT NAG THE MODERATORS. Nagging will anger them, and make them more likely to reject you. The moderators will get around to your application when they are ready. Our moderators are extremely busy people, what with the large number of applications we recieve and maintaining the server.) If they like it, they will comment on it and add you to the whitelist. (Another note: Moderator powers are currently somewhat borked due to Bukkit. This means that only admins can add you to the whitelist. This may take a while, since the admins are even busier than the mods!). You will now be able to log into the server. If they think you are close, they will ask you to make a few revisions, like adding a little more lore or length.
    6. When you log into the server, you will be required to pass an RP test. This is a simple test for the moderators to make sure you are suitable for the server. You will need to roleplay for a couple minutes with a member of Navia, and a mod will watch. Once you pass the RP Test, you will be a fully fledged member of Navia, and free to go out into the expansive world!

    Commands

Navia uses the popular Minecraft mod Bukkit to run the server. The commands for this are as follows:

To join general (worldwide) chat: /ch g
To join local chat: /ch l
To leave a chat channel: /leavechannel [channel]
To set your home: /home set
To teleport to your home: /home
To find out who is online: /list
To send a message to a player: /t [player] [message]

    Mods we use

Although our server mainly uses the default Minecraft mechanics, as coded by Notch, we do have some game altering mods. The most notable of these is Craftbook. We also use some home-coded mods for chat and a donators bank service. The mod that the server is based around, providing a base for all our other mods, is Bukkit.

    Donators

The Navia server is expensive to maintain, so donations are very welcome. There are ingame rewards for donators, depnding on how much you donate.

    2$

Rewards can be used for a month:

You will get on the reservelist.
You will get a small protected chest, inside a bank, that only you will be able to access.
You will get first priority for event-invites.

    4$

These rewards counts for 2 months:

You will get on the reservelist.
You will get 1 large, and 1 small protected chest, inside a bank, that only you will be able to access.
Have your name coloured yellow, orange, or green.
You will get first priority for event-invites.

    8$

These rewards counts for 4 months:

You will get on the reservelist
You will get 4 large protected chests, inside a bank, that only you will be able to access.
You will get a coloured name, of your choice (not blue, or red though)
You will get first priority for event-invites.

    10$

These rewards counts for 5 months:

You will get on the reservelist.
You will get 6 large protected chests, inside a bank, that only you will be able to access.
You will get a coloured name of your choice(not blue, or red though)
You will get first priority for event-invites.

    20$

These rewards counts for a year:

You will get a year on the reservelist.
You will get 16 large protected chests, inside a bank, that only you will be able to access.
You will get a coloured name of your choice(not blue or red though)
You will get first priority for event-invites.

    Rules

    1. When talking OOC (Out of Character), prefix your sentence with a fullstop. Like this:

    .This sentence is OOC

This is only required when speaking in .local, all chat in the general channel is considered OOC.
    2. No metagaming. Metagaming is gaining information through OOC methods, and using it IC (In Character). OOC methods include general chat and forums. Since there is no way for your character to use these, s/he cannot know this information.
    3. No spamming
    4. No hacking
    5. No flaming
    6. No griefing
    7. No building impossibly fast. For example, a single person cannot possibly build an entire mansion in a day. Be realistic. Also, get people to help you. This makes it more realistic, as well as providing roleplay.
    8. No impossible destruction. Obviously, even in war, no one person can destroy a whole house or fort. Destruction on this scale will be considered griefing.
    9. No stealing. More on this later.
    10. Seeing someone's name through a wall (or long distances, or other instances where you would not be able to identify a person) is considered OOC. Using the information gained from seeing the name is metagaming. You can't see it IC, since people don't go around with placards above their heads.
    11. This is not an official rule, but all the same, it's important and too many people do it, so imma put it here:

Do not nag the moderators/admins/anyone about anything. Whatever the issue is, nagging will annoy the person in question and make them dislike you, and subsequently will lower your problem down the priority list. After all, nobody likes to be nagged endlessly. Remember, you do not want to piss anyone off. If you anger the mod who will eventually RP test you, for example, then they are much more likely to fail you.

    The stealing rule

Here are the current rules on stealing in Navia:

    1. When you steal from someone, you need a VERY good IC reason!
    2. There is also a limit on how much you can steal:
      a) If you take something from a chest, you can only take individual items (not stacks).
b)To stack the items you stole, you have to get to your own chest somewhere to recombine them.
    3. If you are carrying stolen goods, you cannot use /home, or other forms of /warp or teleport.
    4. The character you are stealing from HAS to be online. The player MUST have a chance to prevent the stealing.
    5. On the other hand, if you are being robbed in person, you should not log out to avoid the situation. If you have to leave for OOC reasons, state that to the thief politely before you go.

    FAQ

My Minecraft username is not an appropriate RP name! What do I do?

We use a plugin that allows mods to give you a 'stage name' that will appear before your username in chat. It looks like this: Anuillae_epicsauce69

The mods aren't looking at my application! Can you make them hurry up?

No. I am not anyone important in the Navia hierarchy. I'm not even an official recruiter. I cannot make the mods do anything. In the case of this particular question, the mods will get around to your app, in their own time. They are not paid to do this, they want to play themselves, sometimes, and even have a Real Life *Gasp*.

When I log in, I can't talk! Help!

Sometimes, when you log in, you are not automatically assigned to a chat channel. You just need to type /ch g or /ch l as normal to join.

Are there mobs on this server?

Yes, all mobs are enabled. However, we run with nerfed creepers. They will still deal damage, but any blocks destroyed will be immediately repaired. This is just a temporary measure while we decide what we want to do with them.

Is there PvP on this server?

Yes, PvP is enabled. However, killing people is considered rude, and if you maim, wound or kill someone ingame, it does not mean that that applies IC. A person has the right to decide what happens to their character.

I'm having trouble getting started. :( Can a mod give me items?

No, mods will not generally give you items or teleports. There are exceptions to this, however. If, for example, you live in the Air Duchy, and you want to build a house out of wool (all buildings there are woolen), then a mod will likely give you wool or convert placed dirt into wool.

How do I use emotes? Other games, like WoW, have commands for them, but Minecraft doesn't...

We use the generally accepted method of two asterisks around the emote text. Like this:

*Claps and laughs* I love that song!

Some people also use <> and {}. Generally, you'll be understood whatever you use, so long as it is distinguished from the rest of the text.

I got accepted but I haven't been whitelisted yet! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!

Yes, this is an issue. Currently, there are only a few people who can whitelist, due to some quirks with the latest version of Bukkit. Unfortunately, those people are also the busiest, and there are only three of them. They will get around to whitelisting you. However, they have other duties, as well as wanting to have a life, play minecraft themselves, etc. Their first priority is themselves, which is the way it should be. Remember, please, please do not nag them to whitelist you, or make threads nagging them to whitelist you. Don't even complain to other people about them not whitelisting you, or get other people to mention it. Seriously. They are really busy. They know who has not been whitelisted. They will whitelist you in time. I've said it before, but this is so important, and we have such problems with it, that I'm going to say it again:

Do not nag the moderators/admins/anyone about anything. Whatever the issue is, nagging will annoy the person in question and make them dislike you, and subsequently will lower your problem down the priority list. After all, nobody likes to be nagged endlessly. Remember, you do not want to piss anyone off. If you anger the mod who will eventually RP test you, for example, then they are much more likely to fail you.

Remember, please do not post your application on this thread. It will not be read. You can post questions about the server here.
