What would you like to see in Mirror's Edge 2?
I only played the demo, but there was one thing that really annoyed me. Let's say you're doing a wallrun across a billboard that stands between the gap of two buldings, like in the demo. If you turn your head down to see the awesomeness that is happening, you automatically fall. Dude, that's whack. Sure, I understand you're probably not going to be doing a wallrun and looking downwards, but this is still a video game!
Obviously the answer is more of the gunplay and less of the stupid traversal since it stopped me shooting people :|
Seriously, want then to strip the story and gun-play and just give me a loose framework to string a bunch of levels set in some sort of tight area as well as a bunch of the free floating ethereal levels like the DLC has. I would also like if they added a replay system (and the appropriate graphics in replay mode) so I could watch how awesome I was (or wasent) since the first person view means I cant see a lot of the awesome stuff im doing.
I feel like the ending of that game shot the considerable momentum it had been otherwise building by throwing overly intricate puzzles at me that didn't lend themselves well to the wall-running/parkour mechanic. So much, much less of that.
A longer campaign would be nice, along with the immediate and permanent removal of those "stylish" cut scenes it forced me to watch in between jumping off stuff. A multiplayer free roam mode would be nice (which means the game would have to switch to an open world structure), featuring a couple of race and checkpoint challenges. No combat.
" No guns for the player, focus on CQC.Environment variety. No cartoons. "I liked the cartoons personally. Maybe if the game was more cel shaded it could've fit better. Personally I want the theme to return, bigger levels, more lines, stronger hand to hand combat a la Breakdown, and more mobility.
An open world. Seriously, making Mirror's Edge a sandbox game can lift it to a whole new level - it was the mistake-ridden, flow-disturbing gameplay that killed it for many. And there are plenty of clever ways to add stuff like GPS, for example highlighting in Runner Vision the best route, all the way red.
Oh, and those fucking cutscenes. Terrible stuff.
An optional hint system telling you what you are doing wrong if you get stuck on certain jumps, I never found any of the racing/running/action sections hard but every so often I would run into these quiet parts where I had to do something seemingly simple but would just keep failing over and over again with absolutely no feedback as to why I would grab a ledge and why I wouldn't...
and no shitty swing across the ceiling parts whilst 50 police officers are shooting at you... that part is absolutely no fun.
Better combat, and multiplayer. The maps for multiplayer would probably have to be randomly generated though, otherwise it would get repetitive.
I never used the guns in the game, but I mildly enjoyed the hand-to-hand combat. I think it would be nice if they allowed you to hold X down to slow time whenever you want though, without it influencing the time trial stuff.
I liked the story and characters, I hope they can do something similar. I would appreciated some in-engine or even pre-rendered cut-scenes though. A larger multiplayer component with no-guns would be great. A capture the flag (or bag) game would be fun, races of course, and maybe some other cool stuff.
An open-world approach would be great, imagine if they had an open world like GTA, but you run everywhere, I would appreciate that.
Also, for people asking if it is being made: The CEO of EA said they had a "small team" working on it, and he said it is coming out really well. But it is confirmed not to be releasing before April/March 2011. So we have quite a bit to wait.
What if they put a multiplayer for it, it would own. I only want better gunplay and fix the game where it's not a trial and error game anymore. I don't know what i'm exactly saying, except if they adress all complaints, I think they would make an excellent game. I"ll be happy to get another mirrors edge game, first day buy for me regardless of the score.

On a serious note, i dunno, whatever the developer throws my way.
Definitely no more shooting, the shooting detracted from the game, it made no sense and was quite frustrating in parts. Personally, I saw the game as more of a mild puzzle platformer; In Mirror's Edge 2 I'd rather be running away/hiding from enemies than killing them.
better game design so it doesn't force you to slow down/stop whenever you build up speed. At some points it would be nice to have a better sense of direction/where to go. The story needs to be completely rehashed, and I hated the anime/cartoonish cutscenes (although that's more of a personal thing than an actual problem).
Redo/remove the combat, I hated the reaction shit/bad shooting/fight mechanics.
Remove most of the combat (unless exponentially improved) and focus on what made the game unique: the first person platform/parkour gameplay. Expand upon this and give the player open environment reward exploration, creativity and guts for risky maneuvers and leaps of faith.
Maybe some puzzle solving and no permanent death
First-person combat has never really worked for me, so I'd be game with axing that entirely. I'm onboard with everyone's suggestion that the cityscape go open-world, but I understand how quickly that'd turn into a developer's nightmare. Ultimately, I'm torn. The combat almost single-handedly nullified the positive aspects of this game (of which there were many), so this game deserves a sequel that really explores and explodes the concepts introduced here.
Better storytelling, less random deaths, no weird clipping. Keep the trial and error and weak character, for that makes the game very gratifying.
A better looking Faith. Shallow, I know, but the way she looked always bothered me... even though it was in the first person.
Never used the guns, so the game was probably more frustrating than they needed to be, but still:
- No place where you have to take down multiple guys that can kill you in two hits.
- Less bad looking cartoon cutscenes, more in game first person cutscenes.
- More running, less getting stuck trying to find where you are going to go next for fifteen minutes.
- Less fighting overall, I'm fine with just running from dudes if they have guns.
- Wouldn't mind some minor stealth sections.
- More parts like the one where you climbed the unfinished building.
I really like the concept of running and climbing around in first person, and I like all first person games that actually lets you see your body, so I'm hoping they can come up with a sequel to Mirrors Edge that's more fun to play.
This is me disagreeing with you:
:(
Yeah, take that.
huh, didnt think the first did well enough to warrent a seuqel. i dont know, less parcore? (probaly spelt wrong.)
" @LiquidPrince: I couldn't disagree with you more than I am right now.I don't see how posting that changes anything. In fact it cements my opinion that Faith is not an attractive game character.
This is me disagreeing with you:
:(
Yeah, take that."
I'm just venting my frustration over you having your opinion and doing it in the most non-confrontational way as possible. Perhaps "take that" was a bit over the line then.
The picture was so that anyone else could easily see the differences between regular Faith and the picture you posted.
I'd like for them to keep it the same, except for a few changes. I personally loved the cutscenes, anyways, I think free roam would be a bit nicer, also like seriously, When I ran up to those swats with the machine guns , disarming them was so damn impossible. Please help with the disarms. I was playing time trial and I was doing playground 3 map, trying to beat the fastest guy in the world (totally did not work) and what happened was I had to fucking mess with my camera and keep my analog stick completely straight THEN i had to time a jump right before the big jump, TO ACTUALLY MAKE THE F-ING JUMP! Sometimes my character would hit it but fall off because the detection system wasn't working properly JUST POLISH THE GAME AND IT WILL BE AMAZING!!!! i really really really really loved it though :D
