Not as good as it should be.

Mirror's Edge can be really fun when you're stringing together moves flawlessly and running at high speed. But its rare one can even get to full sprinting speed for more than a few seconds, let alone use that speed to complete more than two moves before momentum is lost. The game is filled with (duh) high jumps. Often you are required to jump from a high vantage point down to a low one. The catch is that unless you want to lose health and be momentarily stunned, you have to roll when you hit the ground. This sounds cool, but it totally kills your momentum. And its unavoidable. Many jumps, no matter how well you perform, will end with Faith only being able to grab the edge of an object, and then hoisting herself up. Again, a total loss of momentum. And, again, totally unavoidable. And combat in the game takes a larger role than the ads lead you to believe. Every level has a police chase, and since the game doesn't do a good jub of showing you where to go, you will die many times trying to find the one path that leads you away from the cops. Adding to the frustration is that the cops have constant pin-point accuracy, and two or three shots kill you. Often, you will round a corner and be shot to death before you can even look around. There are also some issues with object contact (or whatever it's called). There were way too many times I jumped directly at a pipe and instead of grabbing it, faith passed right through it and fell to her death. Sometimes Faith will lose momentum out of nowhere, and how far the travels while running up or along a wall are inconsistent. "Oh," you might be saying, "The distance she travels obviously depends on how fast she is running." I thought that too. Wrong! I tested it at various speeds, and it seems almost randomized. Once, while wall running at full speed, I held the jump button, but she ran for two feet along the wall and then just suddenly fell straight down. FUCK! It's amazing that a game that relies solely on its platforming could have issues such as these.

I was pumped for Mirror's Edge, and I loved the deom when it came out. But the control problems make it to much of a hassle to play.

Mirror's Edge has great platforming, but other elements fall flat 0

DICE is primarily known for its popular Battlefield series. Because of that, it's surprising they are behind Mirror's Edge. This game isn't focused on gunplay at all. In fact, the game encourages you to avoid combat situations at all times, and the act of shooting a gun isn't satisfying either, which is weird, since the guns definitely packed a punch in the Battlefield games. Instead of being a shooter, Mirror's Edge is based on Parkour, the sport that sees athletes moving from point A to point ...

Despite its issues, Mirror's Edge pulls through in originality. 0

Editor's Note: Video review included! Both reviews took me quite awhile, and this is my first review in nearly a year. Both reviews differ from each other and include a few different thoughts. Unfortunately, my capturing device went FUBAR prior to the review, so I had to use trailer footage for the video. In result, I could not always use footage that fit the context.
