Mist should not be confused with fog of war, a concept used in strategy games that hides parts of the map that you haven't yet explored, nor should it be confused with Fog which is thicker. The Final Fantasy franchise has featured mist as a prominent part of the world; in IX it is a by-product of the Iifa Tree and used to power airships, and in XII it is expelled from deifacted nethicite. In IV, the summoner Rydia can call a Mist Dragon to attack enemies. Outside of the Final Fantasy franchise, mist is a huge part of Legend of Legaia. In this context, mist spawns monsters and the party travel the world to revive Genesis Trees to repel it.
