Mistwalker's New RPG - The Last Story
Rough google translate® description: and the theme of the story with universal human emotions, the new shapes RPG aims to have developed full-scale cooperation with the Mistwalker RPG Story 』last 2010 years, they will be available to each Masu.
They'll be starting a blog in March to start revealing information about the game. Or something.
Chances are it's the project they said they've been working on (one way or another) since FFVII..." Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Mistwalker is making a Wii RPG? OMG. :D "
...And I just realised The Last Story is basically another way to say Final Fantasy, though I'm sure it won't be conventional with that description :-P
" Aw, thought it was going to be for the Xbox 360. "Cry On for the 360 was canceled last year. SOURCE
Ha ha, that reminds me of that story a while back.
Mistwalker photoshops Wii dev kit out of picture.
Did anyone make the game page yet? I have to add this to the Game List thread.
:(" Aw, thought it was going to be for the Xbox 360. "

My thoughts exactly. But one can hope for a experience similar to FF with a lesser budget." @Meowayne said:

And the music is very cool... :D
" And the music is very cool... :D "Man, the music is really good can't stop listening to the loop.
Also lol @ "The Last Story" title, Final Fantasy was the first thing I thought of actually and giggled a little. Kinda curious why he is naming it that anyway. As in will it be relevant to the plot or is it just because it is similar to FF.

It might be similar to FF, as the director of the studio is the father of the Final Fantasy franchise... but about the story no one knows.

I always felt like Lost Odyssey translated into something akin to: "The Final Fantasy game I wanted to make, but never got the time to make".
"Last Story" seems to follow a similar methodology. Not excited about the platform, but I'll most certainly check out the next project from Sakaguchi. Very excited.
I like the sound of that.
From Sakaguchi's blog:
2010 is the year of my long-awaited new blockbuster project.
I'm putting my heart and soul into this production. I'm taking a full swing and making this the best project.
And in a 07/09 post he confirms that Nobuo Uematsu is also part of "the project".
Edit: Ha ha. Either Sakaguchi is a really weird, childlike person or the translator doesn't do his job very well. It's quite a read, this blog.
(03/2008)"We are doing research for a prototype that I haven't worked on since FF7."
(09/2008)"Right now, I’m making a game and I’m going through quite a bit of trial and error. My main objective will be to not be embarrassed in calling it the ‘next gen’ RPG. While characters, maps and other essentials are developed in parallel, the game system is tweaked daily. It’s been going on for a year."
(12/2008)"I’ve finally reached half way up the mountain in regards to the latest project I’m on. Of course, there is a lot of work left to do, but I feel it’s approaching something I wanted to achieve. I’m betting a lot on this project.
I’m putting my full strength into this project; including 120% of my emotions."
(04/2009)
"I'm stuck with the graphic settings for our new game project. When we start creating art and images based on script, I come up with all different kinds of thoughts. I'm in the middle of redeveloping and polishing these thoughts.
For this new game project, I understand it is important to have seamless control of staging. At the same time, I'm planning to showcase spectacle scenes mixed with CG. The control system will have a special mechanism, while overall game will have a blend of RPG-style strategy and character growth. Interesting reaction will occur corresponding to surroundings and circumstances.
This new game is different from any other ones I've worked on in the past, and it will be a good one."
(06/2009)
"Most of the game system is figured out. I strategically
implemented a system of battlefield ‘order and chaos’ during real-time
scenes. I feel it came out very interesting. The overall balance and
experience parameters still have to be worked on, but there is a
growing feel of ‘addiction’ you can sense. I think this is most
important. Games are decided by the ‘feeling of being enhanced during
game play.’ While I’m pouring 120% of my energy into this, the driving
force can also be credited to production’s passion; developers’ state
of mind and the technology itself lended from former experiences.
It’s great that all these elements are blending well with each other
and advance the production. "
(07/2009)"The imagery is real-time 3D, so compared to when you're in control mode, it's to raise the quality of event scenes. There is the growing problem of limiting lighting complexity due to processing speed. From particles to waves, light is a strange existence. When things are lit up, overall beauty is revealed."
(07/2009)"Nobuo Uematsu and Takuya Matsumoto
who shared the joys and sorrows throughout the project."
(09/2009)"It’s quite a strange game system.
I wonder… if it will work?"
(10/2009)"Now we just started going into the final phase of the production.
No matter what, I will make it really good...."
(11/2009)"Yes, I'd say it's going well. But,
RPG takes time to complete, so the actual battle in production starts from
now. We still need the adjustments for the small direction and each battle
scene...We still have much more things left to do."
(12/2009)
"I was planning to announce my new project within this year but it's a little late. Sorry about that.
I imagine announcement will be starting around next spring.
But I'm working really hard on this.
The title is also decided."
(01/2010)"2010 is the year of my long-awaited new blockbuster project.
I'm putting my heart and soul into this production. I'm taking a full swing and making this the best project."
(01/2010)"I still have unsettled adjustment on the last dungeon dialogue and the directions of the ending scene. I didn’t think I had that much adjustments, however this being the last dungeon, my requests has become slightly excessive."
(01/2010)"I've got to get back to work on balancing battle system...
Production is near the final phase."
Oh man, I can't wait. I love Mistwalker and they have gained so much more respect in my books than Square Enix or any of the RPG developer, besides Bioware. While Square Enix muddles with new concepts, Mistwalker creates classic style RPGs which are so fun and familiar and don't try to be some amazing new type of game - just a straight up JRPG. I really respect them for that.
BTW - I still think that Lost Odyssey 2 is going to be a long time in the making and when it finally does come, it will be fantastic. Lost Odyssey 2 is not a sequel to rush. As long as they take their time on the possibility of a LO2, I can wait for a long time. I want them to create a game which gives the same experience as the first... such a beautiful game.
Please don't get me overexcited Sakaguchi-san :'D" The Last Story ” has finally been announced.
This is my only project because I am concentrating on this particular one right now. This project is like a child of the development staff who gave all of their affections, this project was raised like a only daughter, but sometimes she was forcedly pushed into the abyss of ravine… She's sturdy, beautiful and I'd like to nurture her gently.

I wonder if, in this instance, the "real time system" doesn't refer to the battles but some sort of day/night cycle, and possibly time factoring into the storyline in some way. Though he's already described the battle system a bit, trying to make something new and unique with it.Production of the last story is advancing smoothly. But, I want you to understand how difficult it is to finish the last fixes and it is time consuming in RPG creation. There is an unknown territory for me because of the real time system exists in it. But I believe that the hurdle will invent something new. Of course, it's possible to finish it really quick, but the effort we put in in 2years would be wasted. The final seasoning is very important. So I made up my mind carefully and I'm working with scrupulous attention. Anyway the sense of security is necessary to the foundation so that you can enjoy yourself without any logic.
I hope we get to see this soon, they were supposed to start a blog unveiling information this month, and I imagine they meant a new blog dedicated to the game rather than the column which Sakaguchi has been using for years anyway, otherwise there'd be no reason to announce that, business as usual.
" I like the sound of that.mostly definately the music on the last story page is Nobuo's style completely.

I don't know for sure though...
Here's to hoping it is. (Raises glass of orange juice.)
" Let's hope that when Sakaguchi says "Last"...he seriously means LAST and not "we'll be releasing The Last Story XIII in a three-part setup 20 years from now". "Well we only had 2 blue dragon games, 1 lost oddysey and then this, his track record with Mistwalker has been alot better.
