    Mode 7

    Concept »

A simple texture mapping graphics mode on the SNES that allows a background layer to be rotated and scaled. Many game developers used this to create faux-3D worlds and environments.

    WTF is mode 7

Someone who knows, please write anything to help us n00bs out here that don't know what that is. Kind of pointless having a faceless concept floating around right?

Mode 7 is sort of a fake 3d that lots of NES games had I believe. For instance in the final fantasy games, when you enter your airship it goes mode 7 most of the time

Oh right, like the kind of fake-perspective 3D by moving walls in fast order? I think I get that.

The Mode 7 was originally on the SNES and was later reused on the game boy advance.

It was a simple graphics mode that the SNES could use that essentially allowed sprites to appear as if in motion over a flat, scrolling image of a landscape, like the tracks in F-Zero.
