The sequel to 2007’s wildly successful first-person-shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues the story of American and British soldiers fighting Russian ultra-nationalist forces.
I kinda feel like something should be done about these cheap gameplay styles before they get more out of hand. They completely dominate objective-based gametypes and suck the fun out of it for anyone who wants to play fairly.
Nothing wrong with knife runners. Just make sure you're not always facing the same direction. The amount of times I've run around a whole team and can run strait up to 3 or 4 people all facing the same way. Look around more and you won't get flanked. Duel 1887's a broken though, they've got massive range and when both are shot at you it's instant death.

I'm curious, could you write us up a new rule book so we all know how to play? I don't want to be cheap, so I want to make sure you're cool with how I'm playing before I start. a list of cheap weapons and abilities and a list of acceptable gameplay would be great, I wouldn't want to offend your delicate sensibilities.
If a person can run into a spawn with a knife and kill most of your team then your team just sucks, if they cant kill you before you knife them than they are just horrible. The shotguns althought they are fun to use, are unbalanced. But hey if you can't beat 'em join em.
The only thing that currently really pisses me off is that damn javelin/stinger glitch.
Rangers aren't that bad, they're pretty tolerable because they have crap accuracy and could easily miss. Model 1887s have a far wider spray and range, making them completely ridiculous and the only way to counter them is by surprise.
knife running isn't cheap imo but yeah, 1887 akimbo is ridiculously cheap lol. I picked it up once for the first time and was about to get rid of it because rangers akimbo aren't that good, when i got ambushed and flattened the poor unsuspecting bastard with a long range double shot. It rules at both short and medium distance, i cannot wait til lvl 67 because it's fun as hell :P
i think it would be for the best if they were nerfed a tiny bit though, once i've had my fun that is.

I guess I subscribe to the "if it's in the game it's not cheap" mindset. I seem to recall people complaining about the famas too only a few weeks ago...personally I haven't run into problems with akimbo 1887s or knifers.
There both cheap, Akimbo more so. The knife gets annoying because the aiming system dosnt allow for a dude running right at you slightly to the left. You cant react fast enough to do anything about it...thus cheap. That is to say YOU can react but the game wont. Hard to explain...

Ok, so so far just from these forums, we've determined anyone using Akimbo shotguns, Knifes, commando, lightweight, Famas, M16, Grenade launchers, Javelin (non bugged), Heartbeat sensors, riot shields, camping, sprinting at people, and all killstreaks are cheap. These should not be used, anyone using any of these should be called out and ashamed of themselves. Anything else you'd like to add to the list of "play the game my way or you're cheating"? note: I only went 2 pages deep.
I would agree that Akimbo 1887's are insanely cheap, I've used them and oh my god they just destroy people haha....
However I heavily disagree that kniving or having a knive build is cheap, if your team allows one to get behind your spawn and potentially gain multiple kills without being detected, that's your fault and your teams for not securing the area..

Hold on, why hasn't anyone mentioned the Javelin Runners? These suicide-bombers are pissing me off equally to the Akimbo 1887 morons. The Knife Runners are not as bad because I myself use it often and was among the first to piss everyone off back when the whole phenomenon started.
theres a whole extra thread on javelin suicide bombers, which is being changed so theres no use whining about it. So now the standard is its not cheap if you thought of something effective first. Awesome, could you keep us informed of your next discovery so we all know how to play?

Because on the Xbox, Microsoft is suspending people who use it, so if you see someone, report them. And yes, the 1887 Akimbo users are pretty pesty.

yeah the counter to the shotgun guys is to kill them before they do. Like every single guy on the other team. If he always shooting you before you can, you're at fault for not finding/using a flanking route to get to him.

Most people running around with this combination are OK at aiming, but when it comes to tactics, they are terrible at dodging you and flanking. I've stuck a number of them into situations where they desperately shoot at my shield while I shield bash them to death.
I think my favorite sight is watching one of these guys who sees me approaching them with my shield turn around and run away like a scared little girl.
Note that I don't abuse shields - I rarely pull mine out and typically only to deal with the akimbo shotguns. I got Intervention mastery last night as an example.

You haven't lived until you equipped a Throwing Knife on your Riot Shield class. Some people stupidly empty a clip at you. Once they begin reloading, throw the knife at their face. Can usually get 3 kills in one life using this method.

By "play fairly" do you mean only using M16's and Stopping Power?
Well, knifers don't bother me as much, since I like to sprint/knife at least 1 round out of 3. But the range on the 1887 just seems to great. Doubly so when akimbo is on 'em. They can kill at a distance that should be reserved for SMGs or Assault rifles. Makes it feel unbalanced, but I wouldn't go so far as it call it unfair.
Everything is the cheapest way to play the game. You're just countering those tactics by not being as good at doing a completely different cheap thing.
People are missing the point. The Akimbo 1887s are easily the cheapest and most overpowered weapons in the game. I've been killed by them from insane distances, and several times the person shot 6 feet behind me. It's ridiculous.
You know what's cheap? Hiding in a corner all round and sniping people from the distance. I don't dual wield shotguns, but I dual submachineguns, and knife sometimes too.
guys, get over it and stop whining. seriously you all sound like a bunch of babies. ive been killed by them yes, but u know what? its part of the game, deal with it. plus ive been killed by all the other guns WAY more. stop making all this threads that just bitch about everything.... unbelievable
@gamer4life bitching about shit that's unbalanced due to developer error is how you get it fixed.
I knife all the time and if the enemy is within one second of lunge distance (I have to sprint for one second before I can get within range for the knife lunge) you're guaranteed to be dead.. but you will die to their team mates, or be gunned down before you close the distance if you're futher away (assuming they're not a downey)...or miss the knife due to some weird error or get jewed by laggy ass hosts.
All shotguns in MW2 have a maximum range to do damage, once the enemy goes beyond that range (say 15 feet) the gun will never hit or do any damage. 1887's on the other hand exceed that distance by 2-3 times. They aren't meant to, they're clearly meant to be an upgrade to the rangers (bigger magazine size), so they're fucking broken.
Aside from that, without dedicated servers there's no rules you can enforce, so embrace noob tubes, bunny hopping, camping, 1887s, and whatever the fuck else.
