The majority of the maps in MW2 are absolutely horrible. To me, the maps in the Call of Duty have always been the series' weakness, but many of the maps in MW2 cross the line.
Call of Duty's matchmaking system really makes the situation worse. There's no way to set map preferences or search for a preferred map in any way, so I find myself constantly joining and leaving random rooms until I finally find a map I want, often being forced to load a map before being able to quit because I was dumped into a game automatically.
Once I do finally find a game, I have to repeat the entire process over again. It's extremely frustrating, and having the overwhelming majority of maps that are unplayable for any small or medium sized games forced on me constantly has made me lose patience for the game.
I often spend just as much time searching for a decent game as I do playing. It's the worst in FFA, where there is one map small enough for the gametype, and 2 or 3 that are bearable. I wish that IW would have an intelligent design on their matchmaking, with appropriate maps for game sizes.

All I want is to find a decent map...
I find it weird how I get maybe one or two games of Terminal per day but I played 5 games back to back on Karachi last week. It's so annoying.
The only maps I don't really enjoy playing on are Afghan and Wasteland, simply because of the fact that there are always a ton of snipers.
I mean, that's fine. They aren't unbalanced or anything. I just can't snipe for shit with the whole breathing thing.
- Wasteland = shit so fucking boring
- Rust = shit because people constantly spawn right behind you
- Skidrow = shit its just one big cluster fuck in that hallway
- Derail = shit because i said so
- Karachi = oh how i hate Karachi
- Highrise = shit way to small and to easy for one team to dominate
- Rundown = shit way to easy for one team to dominate
All these opinions are based on Domination because that is the gametype i like to play most.
"
- Wasteland = Awesome! Kill a ton of people in the bunker
- Rust = awesome! Airstrikes = WIN
- Skidrow = AWESOME! Learn how to play and don't run into the hallway like a NOOB
- Derail = Can't remember this map
- Karachi = Just watch the roofs
- Highrise = Favorite map! Perfect !
- Rundown = ?
All these opinions are based on my fact of playing too fast and not slowing down, i forgot that cod4 and mw2 are not the same game*Highrise, Rundown and Derail are fine to play in TD or just Deathmatch."
I like most of the maps, except for Karachi and Derail. Karachi just isn't fun and Derail leads to too many snipers.
The only map that I really can't stand is Underpass. While I don't care for some others(Derail, Wasteland, Sub Base), I still play them and enjoy them. If I get Underpass, though, I immediately exit that lobby and find a new match.
Highrise, Estate, (The Airport one?), Sub Base, Skidrow, Derail and Scrapyard are, in my opinion, all great.
Shitty maps include Rust, (The one with the trenches?), Underpass and Afghan.
On a side note, the urban map that the spec ops mission takes place in where one person is in a chopper and the other is on the ground (like 3 other spec ops take place in it too, minus the street with all the houses) is one of the best maps I've ever played in anything.
Wow. I think almost all the maps are pretty decent. I really dislike Favela, but I don't quit the lobby when it comes up. Other than that I don't see why there's a lot of hate.
It seems to me that they really revamped their mapmaking to ensure that almost all points are covered from multiple angles and all rooms have multiple entrances. I dunno, tho.... maybe it's just more my style.
The one's I'm really a fan of are highrise, sub base, quarry, scrap yard and rust. I know a lot of people really hate rust, but it's the most chaotic and up in the air map in the entire game. There is nowhere to hide really and there's always a gunfight going on between at least three people at a time, but it gets really bogged down when a team deathmatch is put in there.
On the other side, I really dislike wasteland, favela's and the estate. The rest I'm sort of indifferent towards.
"Maybe you should try another game type, like 1v1 Bitchmatch. I'm sure you'd do well there...

I think most of them are pretty good. I like how a lot of them have many layers for the whole vertical combat aspect, and most of them are designed so that even though they're big, close combat is always present (as compared to WaW).
Wasteland is kinda retarded though. Its like last generation map design.
"Agreed, the maps are really bad compared to Killzone 2's, which are amazingI don't mind them TOO much, but no where near as good as, say, Killzone 2.
"
" I've played 40+ hours and still have never played on Rust. "It's a very very small map, so you'd have to play FFA to get it.
And, if you all havn't realized, they made these maps terrible on purpose. Now, everyone is going to buy the DLC map packs so they might get better maps.
I don't particularly dislike any of the maps, I think they all do a good job at making you play differently but I don't like that certain maps seem to come up far more frequently than others, no matter what gametype you are playing.
I love Wasteland. I don't really know why everyone hates it so much. Its perfect for sniping with the Thermal scope to rack up the kills.

Killzone 2 as a game really disapointed me. For the first 10-15 hours I had a lot of fun online + the campaign was great, but after that, the little things started to become big things and the aiming just ruined it for me. I don't mind it being maybe like Bad Companys, but they moved like slow robots. When you moved it left it would go really slow but when you moved it slightly too far it would speed up massively.
BUT
BUT BUT
the maps. Jesus. Some of the best map design ever. Probably the best maps I've played on in a online game since I started gaming - it really was phenomenal.
