I was a pretty dedicated CoD4 player, got into the 10th prestige by the time MW2 was released. Now i love MW2, and i'm always of the mind that, if it's in the game, it's not cheating. That being said, Infinity Ward seemed so hellbent on outdoing themselves that they kinda went overboard with some design choices in my opinion. A game that used to be more about precise shooting and getting a good position on the map has become a halo deathmatch in a lot of ways. After getting into the 3rd prestige, the thing that stands out to me is the akimbo secondary weapons. Anyone else feel the same way?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Game » consists of 22 releases. Released Nov 10, 2009
The sequel to 2007’s wildly successful first-person-shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues the story of American and British soldiers fighting Russian ultra-nationalist forces.
Did akimbo weapons ruin Modern Warfare 2 for anyone?
I don't really use Akimbo secondary but Akimbo P90 with steady aim and I can't remember what other perks I use is instant death if you are close to me but I don't use it a lot only when I am having a bad streak and feel the need for some.....justice.
I have to agree considering how unwieldy dual wielding is in reality.. but then again, that's just reality.
And I'm too busy exploiting oma to be busy bothering with secondaries anyway.
Maybe pre-patch Akimbo 1887s, but otherwise I wouldn't consider Akimbo to be a very good attachment.
" No, but noobtubes still piss me off. "Aww, I love my Grenade Launcher + Danger Close! And claymores! Claymores are so wonderful. It's a shame I can only have two at a time... I'd be planting them all over the map if I could.
As for akimbo... I hope they patch the akimbo shotgun + stopping power bug that slipped through... I hear it got a patch on the PC recently but hasn't on the 360 yet. I tried akimbo SMGs / pistols and I hafta give props to people that can make those builds work; I get wrecked trying to use such builds.
Akimbos are novel, but they aren't great. I don't run into a lot of people using it and those who do get killed a bunch by snipers and ACR marksmen. I used them once on accident when I was trying to steal a P90 (before I unlocked it). Unless your target is a few steps across the room or right next to you (assuming you aren't stabbed) they feel like flashy noisemakers. I also stole Akimbo 1887's in Terminal, just to see how they worked and those were a bit better even if they were totally ridiculous. However, it's still cool to see a one handed lever action shotgun cock. Kind of like those guys in black from "The Quick and the Dead" except they were using lever action rifles.
I think the only version of akimbo I'd be interested in trying out would be pistols if only because I heard you get "Hard Boiled" as an accolade at the end of the game if you kill a bunch of people with them.
I use an akimbo P90 setup on smaller maps like highrise, and scrapyard. I think it's fairly balanced, at range I'm dead meat, against shotguns you end up going about 50/50 depending on lag and who sees who first. If you can close the distance and exploit corners they end up being pretty effective.
Akimbo shotguns were VERY annoying in the beginning, but I think many people have adapted at this point.
People have figured out to look out for these guys and develop strategies on dealing with them.
Other than the care package runners, nothing else bothers me now really.
Except people playing things like Sabotage for nukes.
I feel that the reload should be a little longer on them, other wise no. All shooters should have akimbos.
The problem for me is not Akimbo. Its all the balance issues whether its the knife runners, or the fact that you can have a sniper with dual auto pistols or a shotgun. Sounds great on paper but the point of classes is all are supposed to have weakness. I refuse to play cheap and those that do are killing this game for me. The stacking of similar perks creates a balance issue that seems hard for Infinity ward to regulate.
This whole game is fucked. I remember how CoD4 was actually a fun game, one that I would play for the sake of playing. MW2 on the other hand inspired me to keep playing just to get things like killstreaks. I realized I just wasn't having fun (something that was really evident in my super erratic scores). Once I had used all the killstreaks and seen most of everything, the pig shit gameplay really started to rear it's ugly head and I just had enough of it. I'll be trading it in sometime this week (may want to go through SP on Veteran since it was still epic even though the MP is shit.)
Akimbo really isn't that bad at all, I don't have trouble dealing with people dual wielding at all and it's far from a game break or problem in my eyes at least. Really I don't run across Akimbo that much at all anyways, the occasional Akimbo 1887s or Rangers and then maybe once in awhile there will be someone using dual UMPs or Glocks.
Luckily I don't have a headset or I would probably be yelling curses and commands all the time. I'm not trying to be a douche or anything, but the concept in CtF is bloody fun, and I really love the teamwork aspect, so it annoys the crap out of me when everyone starts to go one-man-army.
@RsistncE: Yeah, I know the feeling. I just got the game recently and have been playing it like mad - I'm currently at level 26, and am mostly only playing to get level-ups and upgrades. I'm hooked as hell.
Do yourself a favour and try out BF:BC2 (the demo is up on Marketplace). Now that I got the beta on my PC I sold my copy of MW2 and let me tell you...BC2 is actually FUN as in I play it because it's good...not for perks, unlocks and other things of that nature. DICE outdid themselves here I feel.
akimbo handguns FTW. I just accept akimbo shotties now but apart from them im fine with everything else
Akimbo Shotguns have caused problems for me in the past, however the only big problem I have with Modern Warfare 2 is that the glitches appear so easy for people to find, now I know Q&A is extremely hard work and I would never dobut any of them.
Akimbo Rangers just look stupid, as do a lot of the bigger weapons. Only small pistols (no deagels or .44s), machine pistols and a couple SMGs really make sense to wield akimbo.
Since the 1887's were nerfed, I don't have too much trouble with it. Mostly because only a small number of players even bother now. As far as using it, I just can't. I never, ever spray with any weapon. Even when I have an LMG and run face-to-face into an enemy in a small room, I instinctively aim down the sight. Sometimes it gets me killed, but there are many time I win a situation like that because a lot of people spray regardless of range. It's laughable.
