From @fourzerotwo's twitter:
@ItzEddie There isn't an option to search specific regions / countries when matchmaking, but there is improved matchmaking to auto-assist.
WHAT BULL CRAP.
Halo 3 had a "good connection only" preference in 2007!
COD:WaW had a "local connection only" option in 2008!!
AND NOW, IN 2009, anyone who ISN'T from America will be roundly FRUSTRATED by IW's lack of brains to include a preference that doesn't wind up in us having to join, check lag, quit, join, check lag, quit, join, check lag, and QUIT games over and over and over again!!
What REALLY frustrates me about this is how it damages a community. The hate that my fellow Australian players on COD4 direct at Americans is absolutely disgusting because we're forced to play on their bad connections 99/100 games.
But hey IW/Activision, who gives a STUFF right?! You'll sell 10+ million copies and sleep tightly on beds of cold hard cash.
I don't usually get on the internet just to rant but this ticks me RIGHT, OFF!
EDIT: The increasingly annoying 402 has apparently said that the Match Making will take care of this automatically... the results of which remains to be seen.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Game » consists of 22 releases. Released Nov 10, 2009
The sequel to 2007’s wildly successful first-person-shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues the story of American and British soldiers fighting Russian ultra-nationalist forces.
Infinity Ward hates everyone who isn't American
that sucks i guess..
i play cod on PC and find good servers and i live in israel so.. i dunno. i dont get lag that much really..

Alright, let me attempt to clarify as much as possible as its clear that there is some misunderstanding on how matchmaking works in Modern Warfare 2 for international users.
The functionality you're asking for, the ability to connect to BEST connection rather than first available game aka quickest match, is already built into the matchmaking.
There is no need to include an additional toggle where you manually have to ask it to put you in the game best suited for your connection, that should all be done automatically without requiring you, the player, to go through an extra step to request it.
That's what I was referring to in the tweet of, "you don't select a region or country, it is auto- assist". Meaning, matchmaking will automatically put you in the best game for YOUR connection.
My statement was NOT to be taken as, "its the same as COD4". Just because there isn't a menu option doesn't mean the same functionality isn't being done on the backend.
We're doing extensive beta testing of Modern Warfare 2 internally, including with our Activision partners worldwide to test instances JUST LIKE THIS. Which is why I assure you a lot of your concerns will be unfounded come launch. However, we'll still continue to monitor activity and performance for our international users post-launch and address anything that may arise.
So I encourage you, put away the pitchforks and torches for the moment until you see it in action. Then feel free to raise any concerns you may have, for now I stand behind our matchmaking for US AND international users.
If there are any other concerns you think we're not aware of, I encourage you to let me know. This kind of response is good, shows you guys are passionate about the game, and I want to ensure you we're just as passionate about making sure you're heard and concerns are addressed.
Well this kind of sucks everywhere. I live in the United States and I appreciate a local search option.
Thanks Meteroa, but if it works as well as Epic's "it'll search for the best connection" game, then we're all screwed.
If it's built to say "find best connection, but give up after 2 seconds and get anything" we're screwed.
I'll believe it working when I see it.
EDIT: And another thing, I'm starting to REALLLY not like 402. Between slagging off Cliffy B (and hey who hasn't, but the guy made an awesome game so step the hell back), and rolling his eyes at Nazi Zombies in COD:WaW (which is actually insanely popular even if you don't like their hands in your franchises pie), he's becoming an arrogant twerp for a front man off the back of about 1000 blokes who deserve more press than he does...
But yeah, saying that its in the game doesn't necessarily mean that it'll work practically. I really HATE Gears of War 2's lobby matchmaking with its long ass waiting times. Even though it feels like the waiting time has been halved, its relatively unacceptable and especially for such a popular game. I'm going to hope that IW doesn't screw up on this, because as a Canadian I get screwed over with the matchmaking (I believe I do, anyways).
I think 402 just doesn't like Treyarch in general. I can't really say much about CliffyB, his "anyone can do bigger, better and badass" statement might have been directed to WAW instead of CliffyB.
" @Cheapoz: You're making false assumptions, actually. Everyone outside of the US was pissed off until 402 clarified on the "auto assist"./thread.

So yeah, I'm jizzing in my pants whenever I watch MW2 gameplay.
Nothing quite says "internet" like anti-american sentiment, pointless whining, and overall foolishness.

Stop making a big deal about nothing.

"Go through the extra step", what, select and option, ONCE? Thanks for sparing me my precious time IW. Are they going to remove all options from the game so the player doesn't have to request it? Oh hey, you should only ever play with inverted controls now, so we removed the option so you don't have to go and change it.
"Already built into the matchmaking", oh great, like in COD4? So during prime-time at night here when there's the most Aussies online it STILL wants to throw me into 5-10 American hosted games before lucking to find a good one?
They can't be bothered adding in the feature. That's all. Then they've got the marketing spin to palm it off. And I do want to make a big deal out of it, because anyone outside of America gets stomped with almost every online release like this. Because there's a billion of you Americans and hardly anyone else so they don't bother.
If you're so insistent on being angry about console matchmaking, get the PC version instead.
It'll control and look better anyway.

If your really so pissed off, don't buy the game. No one is forcing you to purchase MW2.
Boot camp it dogg.
Or, you know, stop shrieking at the internet until you've actually seen how the matchmaking works.

I don't expect you to care if it doesn't affect you. But I do expect IW to care if they're going to release the game here. Particularly when working, proven technology that could run in their game (from COD:WaW) but they're palming off because of the IW "Holier than thou, Treyarch" stance.
