The patch is on the way. Robert Bowling has addressed it on Twitter. 
 
As to how to do it, no I don't concern myself with such things. I haven't played MW2 in a while, but I also stick to the fact that I don't need to stoop so low to get kills. 
 
Basically, if in order for someone to have fun with a game they have to take away from everyone else's fun, fuck them. Its a shame MW2 has such a following of people... 
 
Note: To clarify, I wasn't directing that statement at you. I'm always a little curious as to how to do these glitches as well, but only so I know what kind of trouble that jerk is going through so that he can break the game to help himself.

It is relatively easy to do, but out of all the major glitches and bugs this is the only one that has been "game breaking" for me. I'm insanely tired of getting into a game with infinite air support. One pavelow down, another enters, one harrier down, another takes its place, etc. Most of my deaths over the past few days has been from people abusing the glitch, I do really hope the patch is soon because I haven't had any fun playing over the past few days because of it. *sigh*

Bad news. Infinity Ward said the patch was pulled back from 360 certification on January 28 because they found another way to do the care package glitch. They said they'd update when the patch was re-submitted. No updates yet.

How in the hell did anyone figure that out?

So, I don't know how likely it is that people WILL get banned or punished, but there's something that we can do if we end up in a game where this is happening besides just quit.

I played for the first time in about a week last night and this was going on in every match I played.  I'm thinking of putting a stinger on all of my classes now.

Those glitchers are compensating for their low self-esteem on their small penis.

Too be honest I'd pay for DLC that allows me to play on dedicated servers at this point.

Prediction: Will get fixed. Three weeks from the fix date, someone will find a way to summon Jesus, effectively winning the game much in the same way a tactical nuke does.

That's still around?  I thought that was patched in the very first title update for the game all the way back in November.  Huh.

They've already said the patch is being certified.

If there is anything they need to remove or power down its the fucking grenade launchers if you ask me.
 
But yeah that care package glitch is incredibly retarded.

I didn't run into this glitch except once. Then again, I only play Search and Destroy.
 
I think I saw someone trying to do it, but he failed miserably. Someone rushed the spawn and killed him and took his glitch. I was spectating (since I just joined the game) and it was hilarious. Except for the part where we got spammed harrier strikes every round.

I was dealing with it untill I got ALL of the stinger challenges completed now I'm fucking pissed.
 
Only time I've ever done it was with an Emergency airdrop on Afgan in FFA and I just kept throwing them outside the radiation zone.  Hilarious, people really wanted those.

Free-for-all is really annoying with the running glitch and Ground War is insane with the infinite Care Packages.

You know this kinda makes me wish the patch just added a game mode called "Throwback Team Deathmatch" where it's just COD4's team deathmatch. The 3 classic killstreaks, party chat, and whatnot. 
 
Or just have a killstreakless mode. Either way, killstreaks are too easy to abuse, that's for sure. It's got to be my leading cause of death in that game, is getting shot to shit by a harrier, or blown up by an ac-130, or nuked to all hell. Real frustrating. 
 
Also I'm pissed about how xbox patches need stupid certification. PS3 version isn't much better though, there was a patch every three days, and they took so long to download.

That sucks man...I don't play the game anymore, but I do hope they patch these things for the rest of the players. I just hope these patches come out sooner, or that the glitches eventually stop. It seems to have been non-stop glitches from day 1. :\

Yeah, but a new method was discovered on how to get it. My friend showed me how to do it, and it's a much easier glitch then last time. I haven't played MW 2 lately though, I think I lost interest.
 
People have been pretty hostile about the glitch though, check out this dude's twitter:

I've never seen anyone doing it, but that's probably because I don't know what it is.  I've heard people complain about it though.

Bah, I'm so sick of running into glitchers. Out of the dozen or so games that I played today, I'd say that 90% of them had care package glitchers in them. IW and MS need to hurry up and fix this travesty.

So far I've found the PS3 version to be relatively free of the glitches people talk about. But I ran into this one a couple of times yesterday and today. Sucks. Although if you use cold-blooded and some stingers it's easy to find an isolated part of the map and rack up some easy points shooting stuff out of the sky.

" @Zenaxzd: Couldn't agree more.  This  glitch is really getting out of hand.  There is no satisfaction of getting a win anymore if you are on a team that does it or playing the game if you lose to it.  i can't understand the logic behind spending 60 dollars on a game only to cheat your way through it.  I thought buying a game and playing it for the enjoyment was what this is all about.  This is why i am really excited about the games that are coming out (Bioshock 2, God of War 3, etc.)  i have such a love/hate relationship with this game that it is really disappointing when i have to put it down for idiots and cheaters.  IW better fix this or they are gonna find alot of people going to over to Bad Company 2 including myself. glitchers take the fairness and the competitiveness of a game. im no mlg l33t n0 scopez by any means just a casual player but mw2 is no fun atm..
but ive been playing a lot of bad company 2 too and it is pretty intense!
is bc2 free from glitchers tho? im new to the series

Ok i have encountered the Car package glitch constantly. Truth be told it is annoying but there are ways to get around it and win. 

1. If your in deathmatch, talk to your team and make sure you have at least 2 people with Stinger missile launchers on their class. then when you notice people doing it have the rest of your team constantly push up towards the glicher and take him out (and mercilessly tea bag him and shoot his dead lifeless body). It may take a few tries to get up to him but you should be able to break through their lines. (Oh and Cold-Blooded is a life saver! You don't NEED Stopping power to take someone out. It helps but it isn't needed). 

2. If you are playing domination, again have at least 2 people on your team with Stingers, but instead of going for the care-packager just capture 2 flags and camp like you have never camped before! If you hold at least 2 Flags for the majority of the game, you WILL win!  I have never lost a match of domination while someone is care-packaging.  

The key to all of your winning needs is,
Take your time,
Communicate with your team CONSTANTLY!
Have fun!
 And when you win, RUB IT IN THOSE CHEATING BASTARDS FACES ABOUT HOW BAD THEY ARE!!!!
