#3 Posted by ThePhantomnaut (6197 posts) -

Ha ha!

#4 Posted by Driadon (2997 posts) -

This doesn't explain anything. They simply make us assume this has to do with a dedicated server when, in fact, it could be a hack in a standard IWNet game.

#5 Posted by wolf_blitzer85 (5254 posts) -

Haha that actually looks fun if I want to just screw around and not care about the actual game. This is why I enjoy FPS's on pc. You can play serious, but if not hey check out what we can do!

#6 Posted by fwylo (3556 posts) -

that looks amazingly fun

#7 Posted by pause422 (6179 posts) -

That isnt even a dedicated server like it claims, I really dont think so at least. But if this stuff continues, it is just being shoved down their throat, and its IW and Activisions own faults honestly. Not that they care in the least bit, since its been clear they really dont care one bit about the PC version of the game.

Because you don't enjoy having the freedom to create your own style of fun? Sucks to be you.

O rly. Check YouTube description. If it was official, it would be too obvious.

Looks hella fun to me. I hope this stuff continues to progress.

Destructoid ran this today, legitimacy confirmed.

Gee, well, it's really shame that Infinity Ward didn't put in those dedicated servers as I'm missing out all this rocket jumping to techno music. Shucks.

This just further shows me that dedicated servers are not a necessity and will be a thing of the past soon enough.

#13 Posted by Gamer_152 (14072 posts) -

I heard about the news of the game being cracked earlier. This was pretty much inevitable and once again shows how fast those hackers can work.

You can't put a PC gamer down, we've been to the edge, and see how overtly stupid we can make things, and we will not be stopped.

i think some of you are missing the point. Dedicated servers is as much about playing the game on a single solid server close to you which provides less latency, the rocket jumping techno is incidental.
#17 Posted by Lowbrow (840 posts) -

This is kind of awesome, honestly.

#18 Posted by guiseppe (2840 posts) -

They'll put out a patch, it will be hacked, repeat 20 times and BAM! Official dedicated servers.

Matchmaking can and does do that well enough. I have had absolutely no problems with lag or anything on MW 2. Matchmaking is simply a simpler version that does all this for you and it allows the developer to protect their investment. Not everything should be in the player's hands but some people just seem to believe that they should be able to modify every facet of the game to their personal taste, which simply is not realistic.
#20 Posted by notsonic (212 posts) -

stuff like moon gravity and unlimited ammo are just factors to show proof of concept.

a dedicated server can be 100% "vanilla," offer lower pings, more stable connections, and have moderators to ban cheaters. this isnt the case with peer to peer matchmaking.

#24 Posted by LaZBoySoldier (17 posts) -

I'm guessing you don't have to have a legit copy to join in the fun...

While I don't condone piracy, Activision and IW should take note.  Making your game "less fun" than a pirated copy does not fight piracy.

It says in the description they are on a ranked IWNet match. I don't think this is a "dedicated server", as much much as the person hosting the game pulled down the console and changed a bunch of variables which resulted in low gravity and infinite grenades.

Imagine a scenario where you live in a country like Australia and matchmaking constantly puts you in games with a red or yellow connection. We call this Xbox live. Now imagine that you could have a low ping game every game. We call this dedicated servers. Some players believe that by purchasing the game they should be allowed to play it the way it was intended?

edit = especially when its double the price.
#27 Posted by JoelTGM (5596 posts) -

nice, but I have a feeling you'd get banned for playing on that especially because it's actually ranked.

This isn't showing dedicated servers, just console commands, so lol @ those who shun dedicated servers because of this and therefor show they're clueless about the subject despite some of them being very vocal in past discussions about an issue which we now see they don't know shit about. And for those who do know what dedicated servers offer, sadly, despite some websites providing this as proof of it happening, this is a far cry from an actual dedicated server setup so don't go buy MW2 just yet or anything. Mods are an entirely unrelated and secondary issue. Unrelated.

Until you can actually install a server application on a linux machine as a dedicated server and clients can have a server browser (whether in-game or with a third party application All Seeing Eye style) with which to see and choose between games filtered according to their preferences, the issue remains unchanged for the bulk of the serious PC gamers I’m afraid. For those saying p2p can be equally good, lol, you can’t even play with existing optional rules like “no respawns” on every game type outside Private matches, not to mention a sequel allowing less players than the last game, lol.

Also, the video's already been posted here and here

the console version does not have dedicated servers or console commands.  not sure what you meant by that.

LOL, not my style of game if I want to have a good time, but that looks like serious fun for just screwing around. Shenanigans can be enoyed by all.

@DOUBLESHOCK:  true but you don't have hackers in the console version.
#40 Posted by JoelTGM (5596 posts) -
@btman:  that wasn't a normal public game though.  they didn't join in a random game and make themselves have unlimited ammo and moon gravity.  there is a wall hack out there apparently though, but I'm not worried.  there are so many people playing it would be so rare to come across someone cheating, and IW can ban cheaters easily.  the punishment for cheating is having your game banned from your steam account, and you don't get your $60 back.  High risk.

They hacked CoD4 on 360 and PS3, they'll hack CoD4-2 as well.

why not, exactly ? i dont mind being owned by a cheater and i think good for them, they earned it if they went for it and pulled it off.. they're seizing the moment, and they're not really forbidding me from doing good, they're just making sure they're number one, and i can live with that.
