Is this Map Pack worth it?
Like my other review I have to start off with debating the price of the map pack. It turns out to be a little more of an annoyance this time because I forgave them last time stating that Overgrown and Crash were two of my favorite maps from Call of Duty 4. Now a few months later and the same thing happens, they throw together three new maps and two older Call of Duty 4 maps, only this time they threw in Vacant and Strike. I just can't help but feel like they should have marketed it differently, what they should have done is made the 6 new maps for 1200 - 1400 points then put the 4 old maps together for 400 - 800 points, allowing the community to choose weither or not they want recycled maps.
So lets start off with Fuel. Now Fuel is a very large map with 3 major building areas and a couple of smaller buildings, sourounded by lots of sand and wasteland like flats with rocks. This map, at first seems like it won't play out very well, but after playing some objective gametypes especially in Ground War, I can tell you when you get to know this map, its fantastic. It's very large but not very sniper friendly. In some areas there is definitely potential to snipe but there is a free-running class is just as dangerous in this map, because inside each building there are back routes through the building that are hard to see from the opposite side.
Now lets talk about trailer park. Trailer Park is a very small confined map where learning the routes is key. This map is hectic and if ever you get it in ground war, I can't imagine it being playable. There is action at every turn so you have to stay on your feet. As the map is titled, it takes place in a Trailer Park with RV's sort of everywhere. you can go inside most RV's which makes this map very prone to shotgun wars. I think this map is solid but its my least favorite of the three new maps, mostly because its kind of broken. But it is great for custom games where your playing 2 v 2 or a small number of people.
Now lets talk about Carnival. Wow what to say about Carnival... this map is simply fantastic. By far my favourite map from the pack. It's a large complex map that takes place in a run down amusement park. There are several good sniping places where it's hard to see you if the enemy doesn't have a thermal scope equiped. The map is themed in different areas and it comes off really sleek and beautiful. From the broken down rides that you can hide behind to the center Funland clown face that has many entrances including a bend in a broken down rollercoaster track, to the medieval area with a wooden bridge entrance and upper floor to shoot down from to the area where there are bumper cars, and of course the carousal and shops area. This map is a complete delight to play and will certainly be your favourite to play too.
The two older maps I won't get into much detail about, Vacant is as hectic as ever. Very small confined areas, with a lot of holes in the roof... so watch out for killstreaks. None of the new stuff breaks this map, but its certainly not my favourite looking back but its my favourite of the two older maps that have been recycled.
Lastly you got Strike, which like before I really disliked, but there you have it, I don't know what to say about this map, its medium-large in size, complex but you'll find out fast which areas people will camp in. There are two major buildings that everyone will go for that have far sight lines and well. Thats about it, they have not changed either one very much except for the better graphics.
All in all, I think this map pack is solid like the last pack, the three new maps are some of the best fun you'll have in Modern Warefare 2, but its really tough where I stand on the Pricing, I think if you enjoy MW 2 or are looking for an excuse to jump back into it these maps are certainly for you, if you hated the first pack or hate MW 2 to start with, this pack won't change your mind much.
