Pros and Cons: Modern Warfare 2

    Pros

    • Explosive campaign with tons of thrills.
    • Deep multiplayer with tons, tons of replay value.
    • Awesome sound effects from your gunfire puncturing your enemies to a Predator missile crashing near you.
    • Challenging yet fantastic Spec Ops missions. I very rarely play co-operative because I like to take my time and explore a map rather than just book through the level like my friends, but this made me want to have them come over to play these many set pieces.

    Cons

    • While explosive and fun, the single player is incredibly short. Also, I felt the overlying story arc was very similar the first game and contained a few plot holes.
    • Some frustrating A.I. issues, especially on Veteran difficulty in the single player. There were many times where the enemy and my squad mates were literally standing right next to each other and doing absolutely nothing. I don't think making the A.I. worse should justify a game being more challenging. Also, I really, really hate when the enemy is ten feet from my squad mates while I'm a good hundred feet away, and yet they're shooting at me. Now, I understand I am the protagonist and that I am driving the story forward, but it's completely illogical to shoot at someone from across a field when you could be shooting at the dude directly in front of you.
    • Some unbalanced gameplay in the multiplayer. Granted, they've fixed some of the problems, but some still persist.
    • This is a little quirk, but the intel collectibles seem useless except for a measly achievement. I liked them in the first game because the more you collected, you would unlock these visual filter and gameplay cheats that added to the fun. Now, since there are no cheats (WHYYY?!), there's really no point to them.

I have to say that even though there seem to be a number of problems, it's still really, really fun. The A.I. in the campaign are pretty frustrating, but after beating it I didn't really go back to it. I spent much of my time with the multiplayer, which is incredibly rewarding. If you haven't yet picked up Modern Warfare 2 - I'm not sure why you haven't by now - get it! It's fun and definitely worth your time.

Entertaining singleplayer, addictive multiplayer & co-op to boot! 0

Modern Warfare 2 takes place five years after the events of of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Despite your best efforts, the ultra-nationalist have wrangled control of Russia proclaiming Zakhaev, everyone's favourite one-armed bad guy, as a national hero and political martyr. As in previous Call of Duty games, you step inside the body of several distinct characters over the course of  the campaign's five to seven hours of gameplay. Though entertaining, the story itself twist and turns so radica...

      Even more Modern Warfare-r 0

Coming into Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, I had a high set of expectations, primarily set by Infinity Ward's previous game; Call of Duty 4. CoD4 came completely out of left field for me, revitalising my interest in what I believed to be a tired, played-out franchise; the change of setting, compelling campaign, and addictive multiplayer making it one of my top 5 games of 2007. Riding in on this wave of euphoria and excitement Modern Warfare 2 had a lot to live up to.   The campaign follows a si...
