Modern Warfare 2: The Shortest Game You'll Love 0

Modern Warfare 2   Play Experience: At the time this review was written I have played through the full campaign on the "normal" difficulty and the "veteran" (hardest) difficulty playing the PC version of MW2. I have gotten a three star rating on all of the spec ops missions playing with a friend and I have hit level 13 (this is still quite low) in the competitive multiplayer. The Summary: Russia has invaded the United States and... that's about it. A short summary for a very short game as I'm ...

Entertaining singleplayer, addictive multiplayer & co-op to boot! 0

Modern Warfare 2 takes place five years after the events of of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Despite your best efforts, the ultra-nationalist have wrangled control of Russia proclaiming Zakhaev, everyone's favourite one-armed bad guy, as a national hero and political martyr. As in previous Call of Duty games, you step inside the body of several distinct characters over the course of  the campaign's five to seven hours of gameplay. Though entertaining, the story itself twist and turns so radica...

    Even more Modern Warfare-r 2

Coming into Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, I had a high set of expectations, primarily set by Infinity Ward's previous game; Call of Duty 4. CoD4 came completely out of left field for me, revitalising my interest in what I believed to be a tired, played-out franchise; the change of setting, compelling campaign, and addictive multiplayer making it one of my top 5 games of 2007. Riding in on this wave of euphoria and excitement Modern Warfare 2 had a lot to live up to.   The campaign follows a si...

An amazing game and a worthy follow up to COD4 for the most part 0

Call of Duty 4 was one of the biggest games in recent years, it overhauled the way gamers played shooters online and provided a stellar single player campaign that could be compared with a rollercoaster. The original COD4 had the player changing characters and this is very much the same in MW2 with you spending the majority of the game playing as ‘Roach’ Sanderson who is a protégé to Captain ‘Soap’ Mctavish of Task Force 141 a counter terrorist group that works to fight against Russian U...

    The American Dream revised 0

Having already sold more copies than most countries have citizens, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has now transcended the video game industry to become a major player on the world stage. I feel as if Call of Duty should have its own representative at the UN, bullying countries into trading resources in exchange for Modern Warfare’s two top exports: flashbang grenades and anti-war quotes. Modern Warfare 2’s economy is both socialist and violent, with the government doling out welfare only as a...

A well crafted, if not perfectly implemented, online experience 0

Having never played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I still basically knew what I was getting myself into when I picked up Modern Warfare 2.  I was pretty sure it would have crazy, competitive online multiplayer with a campaign that was short, underwhelming, and honestly felt a bit tacked on.  And lo, those assumptions turned out to be completely correct.    The game's single player was a short, intense, theme park ride style adventure that threw massive explosions in your face around every corn...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 0

Or just Modern Warfare 2, as Infinity Ward clearly wanted to call it from the fact that the words "Call of Duty" don't appear anywhere in the game or on packaging for special editions. MW2 is the follow-up to the last game the series' actual creators made two years ago, and picks up five years later. The fate of a few characters is left up in there, but main protagonist Soap returns as a grizzled veteran with a voice (Kevin McKidd's) of his own, taking Price's place as ally in the field and f...

    Surprising small things 0

If it's possible Modern Warfare 2 took me by surprise.    For a bunch of reasons I just didn't have very high expectations for this game.  The reviews bashed the single player, I wasn't the biggest fan of Infinity Ward's last offering and thought it to be greatly overrated.   The single player for this game turned out far better than I was expecting.     The story was crazy--but to be honest that's kind of fine by me.  I kind of like that it's got that ridiculous quality that a lot of action gam...

JERRY BRUCKHEIMER EAT YOUR HEART OUT! 0

JERRY BRUCKHEIMER EAT YOUR HEART OUT!Three years ago, the folks at Infinity Ward offered the gaming world their latest creation in the much acclaimed Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was met with award after award and few gamers would begrudge Infinity Ward those precious treasures of the videogame industry. It offered new and exciting additions to the classic formula of competitive multiplayer combat and set a stunning high bar for every future first-person shooter to aim an...

    A Modern Marvel 0

Cue explosions. Cue gunfire. Cue many hours online. The original Modern Warfare, released 2 years ago, was a critical and commercial success by all standards. I spent hours playing through 2 ladders of prestige mode online, along with plenty of other gamers, eager to rank up for that next perk or unlockable weapon.  A short but fun campaign allowed gamers to team up in co-op as well. The game redefined online play, and brought the theater of today's wars into our living rooms. For the most part,...

One of the all-time great First Person Shooters 0

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did one of the rarest things a video game can do. While being a direct sequel to a masterpiece and revolutionary game, was albe to keep the same amazing level and even improve the formula in some aspects. It's one of the best first person shooters of all time, without question. The game kept what Call of Duty 4 started, the multiplayer with lots of loadout options and killstreaks to choose from. They added also the deathstreak, so players that couldn't perform that ...

Modern Warfare 2 lives up to the hype. 1

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hit stores last week as possibly the most anticipated video game release ever. Does Modern Warfare 2 live up to the hype? The short answer would be yes.In a nutshell, Modern Warfare 2 is just a whole lot more of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. There are minor to significant improvements here and there, sure, but if you've played the first Modern Warfare then you definitely know what to expect here as there aren't any truly groundbreaking changes or additions present...

Artificially Orchestrated Shock and Hype Without Substance 7

Will an obvious attempt to provoke an emotional outrage carry you through a wall of text? You tell me! But I will tell you, it did not carry me through Modern Warfare 2,  the current version of a soon to be announced sequel.  Story: The Modern Warfare 2 plot is a garbled mess of disjointed set-pieces rarely making any sense and that never come together. The individual scenes are void of any originality and appear to be thrown together from a couple of Clancy novels blended with Hollywood movies ...

An overdose of spectacle makes Modern Warfare 2 slightly spastic compared to its well-paced prequel, but still a great ride.  Stunning coop and competitive multiplayer round out the package.    Game: Modern Warfare 2 (Also Known As: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) Platform: PC Developer: Infinity Ward Gameplay Tested: Completed Story Mode on Hard and all the SpecOPS Missions  The original Modern Warfare was the first Call of Duty title not set in World War 2 and the first Infinity Ward t...

Not as good as MW 0

The campaign is short, but exciting. Spec Op's is a good challange. Multiplayer on the pc is the big let down. NO DEDICATED SERVERS. NO MATCHMAKING. This title is a huge step backward for multiplayer gaming on the pc. We're limited to 18 player games. You'll still have fun, but after a hundred hours or so, you;ll get bored (Unlike the 1st MW)....

So is this Map Pack worth it? 2

This is a tough thing to review because it's not really a game, but let's give it my best shot.So first thing to discuss is obviously the price point, because that seems to be the touchy issue with everyone who plays BattleField Bad Company 2, who kind of want to smear Modern Warfare 2. So lets peek into the past to another very popular, highly praised Xbox 360 game, that millions of people still play to this day, Halo 3. Each and every map pack they released consisted of 3 maps and it was price...

Reviewing a game like Modern Warfare 2 is a difficult process. It's always tempting to talk about why a game has so much hype surrounding it rather than talk about the game itself. And make no mistake- Modern Warfare 2 has garnered more hype than any other game I can ever remember. However, once you look past all the buzz and evaluate Modern Warfare 2 for what it is, it's pretty easy to see what's going on. This is a must have multiplayer experience, but lackluster single player offerings make t...

    1 Step Forward, 2 Steps back 0

Like everyone else in the entire world I was super excited for Modern Warfare 2. I loved Call of Duty 4 and was looking forward to how Infinity Ward would improve upon the flaws of the first game. So I was disappointed to find that Modern Warfare 2 was an unbalanced game that aims more at equalizing the skill of better players in favor of the masses.   Single Player= 4.5   My beef is not at all with the single player, in fact I beat the campaign in one sit down and thoroughly enjoyed it. It actu...

So good that so much bad can only do so much. 0

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as just a game, and not the genocidal product of pure, maleficent evil it’s been made out to be since the infamous announcement of IWNet, is really, really good. The single-player campaign is unflinching and uncompromising, and bravely goes deeper into its own fiction, leaving behind any semblance of authenticity in favor a campaign more defining and personal. Its multi-player is a lot of fun and minor adjustments culminate into a better base multi-player game than...

Overall Score: 9.5/10Story: Infinity Ward's approach to this game's design was very unique, they chose to build the core gameplay and map design first instead of working on the actual story. With that being said they still managed to create a complex and compelling storyline that keeps you engaged throughout the entire game. The story transitiones smoothly and also does a decent job giving players a refresh on what occured in the previous game. But just like any sequel, new players to ...

Going into Modern Warfare 2 I honestly wasn't expecting to be blown away by the single player campaign, because frankly, I was mainly buying it for multiplayer. I really liked the campaign in Call of Duty 4 (CoD4), but to be honest I thought World at War's (WaW) campaign was better. So having finished Modern Warfare 2's campaign on Veteran (which was noticeably easier than CoD4 on Veteran) my feelings toward the campaign are that while it was very fun, it didn't make a whole lot of sense s...

Giant Bomb user review #36 for Modern Warfare 2.   I'm sure i don't have to explain much what this game is about by now and chances are if you're reading this you already know the bullet points so i'll just share my impressions of the game and maybe quote some other opinions that i feel are accurate.     The singleplayer story, "For the Record"  is a summer popcorn movie that is entertaining from start to finish.  The only time i found myself disinterested was when i was actually  too physically...

Here we are, the juggernaut that is Call of Duty.  After getting my hands on Modern Warfare 2 and going through and completing all three modes, I was impressed.  But slowly, it occurred to me.  "This gameplay is really stale."  I was having so much fun with it, and then it just turned into another boring FPS.  I love it, don't get me wrong, but it builds on what we kept playing in COD4.  Spec Ops was a great addition, even though it was easy and took me about 14 hours total to complete.  The cam...

    Solid, but not perfect. 0

I found the campaign's story to be inconsistent. Some parts seemed original and thought provoking (the airport scene of course), but much of the story seemed to jump the shark, so to speak. The ending (no spoilers, don't worry) was pretty much a let down for me - it didn't feel dramatic, but just cheesy. Multiplayer is fun, but is thoroughly hacked. I'm not sure how much that should factor into the game score, but I will say that the hackers have greatly diminished my enjoyment online.   The bes...

At first I was turned off but its celebration of war and masculine culture, but it grew on me. 0

Although this has gotten quite a bit of praise on its release date, I noticed how much flak it gets from certain types of gamers. It's become the stereotypical bro game. It's reached the point where saying "I liked the first few ones" practically became a meme. Even with all this, and my reservations against stuff that celebrates the military, masculinity, and the bro culture, I've decided to give this an honest chance. I should note that this review will only cover the singleplayer portion. I ...

I mean the cheapest ive seen it is £29.99, there are newer games out there are cheaper then this. Its one of them things that really bothers me about the game right from the start its what 6 months old and still full price (well £10 higher then most games) .  Well anyway on to the review.  The singleplayer starts off a little slo...

After all the hype and anticipation; controversy surrounding questionable viral videos and shockingly violent leaked footage; lack of dedicated servers, uproar amongst PC gamers and multiple boycotts; it’s clear to see Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has a lot to live up to and answer for. This type of attention is normally reserved for a major Halo or Grand Theft Auto release, but after the success and praise heaped upon Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward have propell...

This game is perfect. While I only spent a couple of minutes on the single player campaign, the multiplayer is really why people buy this game. It is the logical progression for Counter Strike players in that it offers console comparative features, while improving a great deal of things, in addition to having a upgrade system that is almost infinitely replayable. But, if you have gotten this far into my review, I will tell you that the game is not for me.... or perhaps my girlfriend.  Since it i...

When Modern Warfare came out it blew away my expectations amazing graphics, story, and multiplayer all on a console it was amazing. And now here comes MW2 (Not Call of Duty 6 for you idiots). First of Spec Ops which are about 25 little challenges designed for co-op it ranges from eliminating enemies for piloting a AC-130 and it is a terrific new addition. MW2? nah get uncharted 2 ;) 2

I would have to say that this disappointed me even though I'm giving it a high score. My main disappointment was with the lack of a strong campaign with it throwing big events at you in a unrealistic way which departs from the semi-realistic story from the last game and goes for the action movie feel. The story itself is good but at around 5 hours on a average play through you can see that this game isn't for those after a strong, long and I guess good story. The multi-player is what 95% of peo...

Acronyms FTW. This is the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Single Player Personal Computer Ver. Review, in keeping with nomenclature of Infinity Ward. Before we get started, let’s address the issue: This game has sold millions and millions of copies, is it the best game in the world? Nope. Infinity Ward does a great job of creating a sequel to Call of Duty 4, but don’t expect this game to be a whole new next generation w/ Capt. Picard experience. Although in death  match all three of the new maps are very bad for death match and other non Hardcore game modes. Well, the long awaited and possibly the most anticipated release of 2009, Modern Warfare 2 is here. Is the game as fresh, exciting and as great as the COD4?   Single-Player Campaign The campaign, in short, was terrible. The story was seemingly mashed together, without much flow. As if it  they had all these ideas for locations to place the missions, put them in the game and then tacked a story on to string these events together.  It was confusing because of this, and the way the story advanced i...
