The most fun you can have kicking the dung out of dragons...
Monster Hunter Freedom is a port of the PS2 games: Monster Hunter, and Monster Hunter G (which only came out in Japan). I bought this game against what Gamespot had said because of the huge support in the forum, and I wasn't disappointed.
Story:
Well there really isn't a story to Monster Hunter, but from what I can tell is that you are trying to become the greatest hunter in the world.
Gameplay:
At the very beginning of the game you get to create your character, you have the basic Name, Sex, Head, Hair, Hair Color, and Voice options, and the voices do sound different from each other (even if they are all grunts)
When you start out the game you are in nothing but your boxers with a dinky little sword and shield, but that changes through the game as you improve and create new and better weapons and armor (they also look a LOT cooler). There are literally hundreds of pieces of armor and weaponry in this game, which is a lot to say considering it IS a handheld game.
As you go through the game you do quests for either the village chief or the local hunters guild. Each quest you complete gives you reward items and of course money, but they also are used to increase your hunter ranking...the higher the rank the tougher the quests you can embark on.
The best part of the gameplay is getting to kill the wyverns (which is a fancy word for Big A$$ Dragons). The wyverns look really cool and are really fun to kill.
There is really only two disappointing factors to the game (but they are not too major), and that is that there is no online included (Which was the biggest part of the originals), but I forgive that because this is such a great game, and there are an awful lot of loading screens but the longest they ever get is roughly twenty seconds when traveling back to town after your hunt is over.
Sound:
The sound in this game is above average, they put in all of the sound effects and music from the original. Some of the music is really cool and has a classical vibe to it. All of the sound effects are really cool, I love the sound of a Great Sword cutting into my prey.
Replay Value:
The replayability of this game is very high because there are six different weapon catagories you can play through with, and your can replay it with some friends over the Ad-Hoc multiplayer included.
Overall:
This is really the first PSP game since Daxter that had made me sit back and go "Wow, this is an amazing game" because the graphics are top notch, the gameplay is great and challenging, and it is a highly addictive game. I recommend this to anyone who has a PSP and likes a good, long, challenging game.
