a fun fighter, but not that great
Back on the SEGA Dreamcast, Marvel and Capcom teamed up with Marvel vs. Capcom. Thanks to it’s fast passed combat system, great cast of characters, and sharp visuals, It was a huge success. Around 2007, Midway games announced that they would be teaming up with D.C to make Mortal Combat vs. DC universe. It seemed stupid at first, but after looking at what Marvel and Capcom made, it seems like a intresting idea. Is this team up a good idea or a bad idea? Story modes in fighting games mostly suck, but this one isn’t. A comic book writer at D.C has actually done a decient job of tying the 2 world together. It seems that 2 teloportal devices has accidently crossed the 2 world together. Now, people are starting to have Rage powers that makes them go into uncontrollable fits of rage and fight who ever they see….or think they see. The story is actually pretty good, thanks to some sharp writing, real emotion, and humor. Motal Kombat vs DC universe has a pretty decent amount of modes. You have combo room, where you can learn the basic combo’s of the characters, The practice room, the story mode, and multiplayer which you can play both online and off. The character roster has about 22 characters that are well know characters from both the Mortal Kombat and DC universe like Scorpion, Lu-kang, Sub-zero, Jax, Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor, the Joker, and more. The actuall combat is pretty good. There’s a good amount of deapth for both the hard core and casuel. Moves like Superman’s heat vision and Scorpions spear are easy to use. There’s also a rage meter that allows you to break through enemies blocks and do extra damage. Also, there are sections were you can jump of the stage and beat the hell out of your opponent, Grab them and hurt them close up, and grab them and push them through walls. With the help of some great counter attacks, this is a pretty fun fighter to play. This game isn’t perfect. In story mode, there was some moments of un-friendly A.I. Also, the game has a teen rating, so the Fatlities have been hurt. Mortal Kombat Vs. DC universe looks good on the consles. Character models look good, evirnments are varied, and this one fine looking game. The music and voice acting are good and well chosen and fits the mode. Mortal Kombat Vs. DC universe is more for casuel fighting fans. If you not a hard core fan, it’s a solid buy. If you’re a hard core, it’s worth a rent.
