    Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is a game that everyone was surprised to hear about when it was first announced during a special Midway event in in April 08. There was skepticism over how much blood there would be and how gory the fatalities would be when it was announced that the game would be rated T for teen. But, as we started to learn more about MK vs. DCU it sounded better and better. The first characters that were announced were Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Pretty basic choices that you would expect. Slowly more and more characters were announced and it turned into a "Greatest Hits" of such as a lot of the popular MK and DC characters were announced as well as a few not so popular choices on the DCU side such as Deathstroke and Captain Marvel (AKA Shazam).

From there MK vs. DCU evolved into an amazing 2D fighting game with some cool new 3D elements. The combo moves are not exactly that difficult to pull off thou, most of the characters moves include easy to do combos such as X X X, X X Y, and X X B. However there are some harder to pull off combos such as Down Toward Y and Down Away X. these combos usually involve throwing something or pulling something toward you while the simpler combos are combinations of punches, kicks and uppercuts.

There are a handful of game types to choose from in this game, they include:

Story: Tells the story of why Mortal Kombat and DC people are fighting, 1 campaign for each side.

Arcade: Basic mode where you choose a fighter and climb a ladder of fighters to the top, it then ends with an artistic rendition of what would happen if this fighter was champion.

Kombo Challenge: Pick a character and try to pull of crazy combos in a practice arena.

Practice: Pick a fighter and practice combos.

The game also includes 2 player local play as well as online ranked and unranked fighting.

The fighting is broken up nicely with some cut aways such as Test Your Might, Free Fall Kombat and Klose Kombat

Test you might happens when you hit someone strongly near a wall, it then cuts to you pushing your opponent thru a series of walls, the object being to spam buttons to either maximize or minimize damage depending on what side you are on.

Free Fall Kombat and Klose Kombat are pretty much the same except for how they are initiated Freefall Kombat starts when you hit someone near the edge of a cliff, you then have to match your opponents buttons if you are the one who got hit off the cliff or you have to hit random buttons if you are the one who initiated it. If the victim matches the button you switch places until you hit the ground, it can be reversed as many times as possible until impact. In Klose Kombat the button matching is carried out in the same way, however if the victim matches the move Klose Kombat ends with the victim breaking away from the aggressor. It is started by someone grabbing another person while close in range.

The roster it pretty well broken up, There are the same amount of Mortal Kombat and DC characters and they all seem pretty well balanced against each other, however some of the fatalities are not as good as the others. But this is a small thing that not many people will not notice or care about.

Fatalities have been a long standing feature of Mortal Kombat games. They basically are moves to show off your ability to press a complex combo at the end of a game and then a short cinematic pops up and you go berserk on the enemy.

Overall MK vs. DCU is a superb fighting game that takes a lot of what you knew from older Mortal Kombat games and throws it out the window, in turn you get a completely revamped system that works great on the current generation of consoles.

      Brutal Entry... 0

The ice ninja vs. the dark knightAt first glance, the new Mortal Kombat crossover from Midway seemed like a wee bit of an attempt to cash in.  After all, MK's hay-day has since passed, and the fighting franchise all but ended itself with the PS2's massive Kombat mash-up, Mortal Kombat Armageddon.  Adding superheroes seems like a surefire way to get anything relatively noticed by the public at large, but look into fighting games' past, this isn't the first superhero foray into the fighting genre,...

Great addition to the franchise but it lacks content and length. 0

When Midway announced in early 2008 that the new Mortal Kombat game was going to be tied with the DC Universe, most people weren’t very happy. Even though there was Marvel vs. Capcom and X-Men vs. Street Fighter II released in the late 90s, this was a bigger surprise. If this wasn’t enough to piss off the fans but Midway also announced the game was striving to be rated T for Teen in . (The equivalent for the would be somewhere around 12+ to 16+) This meant that the game wasn’t going to have the...
