Director Kevin Tancharoen made waves on the Internet back in 2010 with a professional looking, yet unofficial fan short called "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth." Turns out that good things can happen when you draw the kind of excited response Tancharoen did with his mini flick. MK Publisher Warner Bros. confirmed new reports of a forthcoming web series this morning, pegging the director as the visionary behind them.
Just don't expect these future installments to be as free as the pilot episode. Future episodes will be "available this spring through online digital retailers from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution." Shooting will begin on the series in Vancouver next month.

Anyone else really not into this more "realistic" interpretation of MK? The last thing I thought MK needed was more grounding in reality. Its supposed to be outlandish and fantastical.
Reptile's story was pretty disgusting but I feel like they dropped the ball with Baraka. I'm just not feeling that character this time around. I am really interested to see how they do sub zero in this more realistic tone but if they turn sub zero into a wannabe Mr. Freeze then lul.
What the fuck is the point of a web-series if its paid? I really don't want to pay for media that isn't live!
Why not make it a cable TV movie? I'm not paying for a digital short. Whiskey Media and Amazon is the farthest I'll go towards giving money to a website.
What are the chances of this web series coming with the actual Mortal Kombat game?
Like a bonus DVD/Blu-Ray with the collector's edition?
" @El_Derrico: @AgentofChaos: @JustinSane311: @benjaebe: What are the chances of this web series coming with the actual Mortal Kombat game? Like a bonus DVD/Blu-Ray with the collector's edition? "That would make far too much sense (and be way too awesome) for them to actually consider doing it.
I'm not sure where the people thought the money to make something this high-end was going to come from...if you want quality content that didn't look like it was shot on someone's cellphone starring his friends and parents, it MIGHT cost them something so it MIGHT cost you something.
Or just wait til they release the DVD.
" Heaven forbid we pay for something that clearly has a very high budget! "I agree with this. This isn't a cheap web series that's going to be done by a couple of dudes with some spare time. This obviously has a lot of talent, a decent-sized budget and somebody who has a very interesting vision for this series. Everybody needs to stop being so butthurt over having to pay for an obviously seemingly quality product.
I also hope they manage to get all of the original actors back that were in the... pilot? I guess we can call it a pilot.
I would rather watch MK Annihilation than a generic modern thriller (which is to say, I don't on either).
Make it about 50% cooler and 50% less gross, and then maybe we'll see.
But right now I'm not really that interested in learning about how the evil ninja "Smoke" is really just the FBI codename for "Wallace Lee Smokinski," a crazy homeless child molester with a horribly burned face.
Also I guess he also knows Krav Maga for some reason so ROUND ONE FIGHTTTT
