Here is the random thought of the day:
What if somewhat realistic physics applied to Sub Zero's freeze abilities?
- a mid-jump ice-clone would continue the trajectory of the jump.
- an opponent fronzen in air would fall to the ground
- an ice-clone with it's gravity-center off would keel over.
Fun times would be had by all... well, except for the guy not playing sub-zero of cause.
That's all...
You can go back to talking about Freddy now :-)

One of the goriest fighting game franchises returns to its roots, introducing a new story that re-tells the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games (with a unique twist).
"Realistic" freeze for Sub Zero
I like the first two, not sure how a keel would work out. Would be a pretty big change to setting up chain combos...
I thought about the instant death thing too, which is actually which is why I wrote realistic in quotation-marks. Not much in MK can be considered realistic, but I can see how it is not apparent what I meant when I talked about realistic physics.
Also... It's more a crazy idea than a change I would like to see to the gameplay.
I personally think it WOULD break the game.
However it could be cool as a mode I suppose - I just can't really imagine which other characters this "realistic-physic"-mode would make game-play significantly different for.
Would that make a mid-air ice clone similar to a dive-kick that freezes? That would be kind of amazing!
- a mid-jump ice-clone would continue the trajectory of the jump.
Why actually? That would not happen it would fall to the floor wherever it was made.
I'll admit that there is a bit of a disconnect in trying to apply real-world laws of physics to a concept as the ice-clone, since it is basically mass that appear out of nothing.
...But given we've already accepted that part of the ice-clones nature, I figure that it will continue onward with same speed as the host - or at the very least be pushed forward with the same force as Sub Zero jumps the opposite direction. (When Sub makes a ice-clone while jumping forward, he is himself push backwards in the game).
Well this is turning interesting - discussing real physics on fantasy concepts :-)
@kingzetta said:I agree with your physics. The ice clone would either continue along the path of the jump (Newton's 1st Law), or would be pushed forward with the same force but opposite that of Sub Zero (Newton's 3rd Law)- a mid-jump ice-clone would continue the trajectory of the jump.

Speaking of physics, why not just have Newton as a playable character. His physics would out duel any character!
When I begin to think about it I actually get how he came to his conclusion. Since the ice-clone just magically appears out of nothing, it has no motion.
It must all come down to what you believe the nature of the ice-clone actually is I suppose:
- Is it solid?
- How heavy is it?
- Does it weigh the same as Sub Zero?
- Does it in fact appear as by magic, with no prior motion added?
- Is it simply a shell made of a frozen layer of Sub Zero's sweat?
- If it is simply a shell and thus much lighter that Sub Zero, I figure it should be propelled even faster forward as if thrown.
- And if that is the case, does Sub Zero get marginally lighter every time he makes an ice-clone?
- How retain its cold, and how does it give off it cold fast enough to freeze someone?
- Why does it disappear shortly?
... I may be over-thinking this...
Right. I think we can all agree it looks stupid when enemies are frozen and floating in the air, but if they drop, do they stay frozen? Do they instead just shatter and take damage? It would really add a whole new dimension to the game, and it would in-fact make it hard for them to stay frozen for you to attack them.
Wouldn't getting impaled with a spear immediately end a fight? What about getting shot in the head with a gun? Forget it Jake, it's the Shadow Realms.
It would be a cool random thingy, whatever they call em. Not for normal play though, no. Not at all. Hopefully that's what you meant though.
yea, like the little code things you enter during the load screen, maybe make a 'realistic' mode. that would be cool.It would be a cool random thingy, whatever they call em. Not for normal play though, no. Not at all. Hopefully that's what you meant though.
