So... Story mode DLC.(potential spoilers, beware)

I mean with that cliff hanger ending and all are they gonna make us wait until MK10 to see what happens next.

I say $10-15 for DLC story thats as long as the main story in the game would be perfect.

They even put an achievement in the game basically saying "Yeah this is a fucked up ass cliffhanger"

I doubt it. The next thing is going to be a sequel, I'm sure of it.

Really curious to see how they handle going directly into the MK4 story with all the character deaths. Hopefully we don't ever have to see Bo Rai Cho anytime soon, but seeing as he is mentioned in the story mode, that's not likely to happen. Sigh...

Yeah, I think only costumes, fatalities (and it's variants i.e. Friendship, Brutality, etc), characters (and their arcade endings as specified), and stages are the only thing we can expect for dlc.  I'm pretty they're saving story stuff for the next installment.

I honestly hope they don't continue the story as it where in MK4 cause that was a terrible game, its when things started going down hill and very fast. The game was chuck full new moronic fighters that brought nothing new to the table.

I hope they rewrite the story, and come up with something completely new. They did such a good job with MK 2011 and the story line, so i would hate to see that be soiled by the stupid MK4 stuff.

Note, even tho MK4 wasn't the best game, i still played it a shit ton. Weird how these things work.

Heh, I totally considered story mode DLC myself a while ago, pretty weird that one could look forward to more of a fighting game because of the story...

I'd love for them to take it in a different direction from what I've read about MK 4 and on. For instance, in two of the story mode endings Liu Kang has become a god (and he looks badass). Since he died it'd be cool if he got all pissed with Raiden and requested godhood from the elder gods, becoming sort of a rival to him. Though I don't know how death and all that works in MK, if he could even speak with the elder gods or why they would grant it to him if his ultimate motive is revenge ( I guess he could go with "Hey, Raiden did a pretty shitty job, I could do way better!") but a guy can dream, can't he?

It seems like a lot of work went into the story mode, it would make a lot more sense to sell new characters for 10$ rather then make another full story mode for 15$.

I'd pay for pretty much anything DLC for this game. Anything. NRS will have all my money.

Who fucking cares about Shinnok.

They'll see how much people celebrated MK9's story mode and spend the effort to have MK10 top it.  I like Shinnok already, but haters have to be open minded enough to let NetherRealm move the story forward.

After the incredible product that Mortal Kombat (2011) was I have every faith that Netherealm can make a continuation of the story into something amazing and fun. This is Mortal Kombat after all and death is merely an inconvenience for most characters.

As for Bo Rai Cho him and Kenshi are the only characters who appear dead at the beginning of story mode who arn't in the actual game. We already know Kenshi is coming and Boon tweeted about Bo Rai Cho's X-Ray being brutal. So...yeah.

they need to redesign bo then. because he was just a joke before. he needs to be a more serious and badass teacher this time around. and ditch the dumb barfing move

liu kang died in like 5? and came back in 6 as a zombie. i think zombie liu kang is even one of the dead bodies on the steps in the opening cinematic to the story mode in mk9

@CenturionCajun: Knowing Boon, that tweet about Bo Rai Cho's "hilarious" x-ray could've been nothing but him being Ed Boon. lol

edit: found it

It amazes me how many people don't understand the concept of a cliff hanger..  Many games like this get so much undeserved flak for having "cliffhangers".  The game ended, we saw how the MK tournament happened, we resolved the invasion of earth and Shao Kahn is dead.  That was the plot of the game and it was resolved.. there was simply an extra scene to set up the events for the next game (which obviously is going to cover the events of MK4 and onwards).  Resolving this was DLC would be nonsensical, why waste such a huge storyline?

#17 Posted by JackSukeru (5906 posts) -
@onimonkii: I did not know that, went and read up some more about it on his kharacter page.

@WinterSnowblind: Personally I'd just want so see a short story, maybe three or four chapters long at most, that further sets up the sequel. Like if Liu Kang, as I suggested, would make some sort of return that could be hinted at, or even shown. Better yet they could incorporate the DLC kharacters in some form, though that would require them to sell the entire thing, kharacters and story, as a bundle, so that's probably out of the question.

Anyhow, it'll probably never happen.

I hope they leave the story as is, I liked the way it ended.

But wouldn't the next game just roll into the plot of MK 4 and Deadly Alliance? Just have Raiden go and save all the dead good guys from the NetherRealm at the start and there you go
