Really loved it. I placed my bets on Garry Whitta winning it but should have played closer attention to the TNT from the night before that he had 'no skill'

Sean Coonce was the heavy favorite but I knew Street Fighter ≠ mortal kombat, Glad to see Alexis winning it it all, hopefully somone of these folks have a better chance next time

Your thoughts?

It was very magical and tense! They need to do something like this again.

#3 Posted by Weltal (2272 posts) -

Yeah, I hope they do more stuff like this. Inter-office tournaments and stuff. More MK too.

#4 Posted by Gav47 (1542 posts) -

It was great but can we all agree that Alexis was a total ringer, he just tore up everyone bar Ryan and Jeff

#5 Posted by ckeats (489 posts) -

It was fantastic. I had more fun watching that than watching Starcraft.

Hopefully there are more of these style tournaments, with the betting and prizes.

I'm just really glad corey didn't win.

don't fucking talk about win asshole

#7 Posted by N7 (3573 posts) -

I thought it was beyond awesome. Like, if Batman had a baby with Jesus and he grew up to have a three-way duel with Kratos and Clint Eastwood. That kind of awesome.

I had all my hopes riding on Will Smith to take it.  I assumed he had enough repressed anger at the taunting of failed Tested segments to really want some people dismembered in that tournament.

As such, I am extremely bitter about Alexis winning, and feel that he only barely qualified for the scrub league if at all.  Curse you.

I hope they continue it and even setup a TNT ladder with all the best community players vs the best Whiskey guys. Really get a competitive league going as this game is here to stay!

#10 Posted by wolf_blitzer85 (5250 posts) -

Yeah I would love to see more internal whiskey media tournaments going on. It was a lot of fun to watch, and the betting pool made it that much more fun. MORE!!!!

#11 Posted by Make_Me_Mad (3019 posts) -

Also, really hoping for one of these in a month or two with all the same competitors, so we can see how they've improved, if at all.

#12 Posted by Beforet (2912 posts) -

Vinny going out in the first round was a tragedy, but it was an amazing league overall. I really hope they continue, possibly with Mike Tatum who has probably been practicing nonstop.

#13 Posted by Floppypants (798 posts) -

I think the tournament was one of the most entertaining things Giant Bomb has done in years.

Does Garry Whitta have some kind of neurological condition? Look at his face when he starts playing from 27.00 on.

#15 Posted by Hailinel (23868 posts) -

It was awesome.  And even better, the victor wasn't a Scorpion player.

Whiskey Media: Providing quality video content during apocalyptic robot wars since 2011.

@Laketown: Pretty harsh huh friend?
#17 Posted by onimonkii (2429 posts) -

i hope the next one is a tag league, so then we at least get to see scorpion and someone else every time

plus the tag mode seems to be receiving no love in general, and it would be cool to see

Oh wow, yeah that's kinda creepy, I didn't even noticed that when watching it live.

Loved, LOVED the scrub league tourney!  I was so mad at myself I didn't get to vote, i found out through a retweet from Ed Boon's twitter and by the time i saw it was too late but i did get to see it from start to finish.

I would've voted for Corey the intern, but still...lol

So who ended up winning the free copy?  Anyone that post here?

#20 Posted by HandsomeDead (11863 posts) -

Was Alexis really a scrub though? He seemed more than capable when compared to the rest.

#21 Posted by walterbennet (152 posts) -

It was extremely entertaining. Some of those rounds were seriously intense. And some were just plain hilariously bad. Me and a friend watched them together and applauded some of the victories. Was sad to see Vinny go early on... Where was Brad?

#22 Posted by EvilTwin (3324 posts) -

I bet on Alex to place.

IT WAS A SURE THING.  HOW COULD YOU LET ME DOWN LIKE THIS ALEX?

#23 Posted by Lukeweizer (2607 posts) -

What was it?

#24 Posted by kingzetta (4307 posts) -

surprised Alex was out in round 1

#25 Posted by Sooty (8082 posts) -

I didn't think much to it, fighting games don't appeal to me at scrub level so I guess that's why.

I would have preferred to see them all play something like Chu Chu Rocket again. Now that was funny

#26 Posted by MightyDuck (1501 posts) -

I really enjoyed the "Scrub League."

In general, I'm REALLY enjoying the new Mortal Kombat.  I like how the combos are relatively easy to pull off and it makes the game a lot of fun to play.  Now if only the PSN was up so I could finally try the game out online.  In the past I had tried Tekken 6 and Super Street Fighter IV, and to no avail, I was beaten pretty badly.  I'm hoping this will be the game that finally gives me a chance to eek out a win here and there.

#27 Posted by HatKing (5813 posts) -

Holy shit, it was amazing!  I hope they do that sort of thing frequently.  I think I'd go subscribe to watch a weekly tournament.
#28 Posted by FesteringNeon (2158 posts) -

I actually bet on Alexis to win, Whitta to place, and Will to show.
I'd say that was pretty good guessing! Any word on when the winners of the PS3/X360 games are announced?

#29 Posted by Lukeweizer (2607 posts) -
@Dany: Was it just the Whiskey Crew playing MK basically? Was it streamed?
#30 Posted by Dany (7887 posts) -
@Lukeweizer: It was an office tournament with the winners getting a free copy of MK, it happened before the happy hour

@Dany: Many thanks for posting the video for those (read:me) who missed it the first time.

It was really good, I was suprised how far Will Smith got though, I guess you should never doubt the Will Smith
#33 Posted by Dimsey (948 posts) -

Was great fun to watch, hope we see more like this in the future.

#34 Posted by SBYM (1219 posts) -

This needs to happen again.

#35 Posted by Daveyo520 (6651 posts) -

Drew let me down, but he is still the man. I knew I should have voted on Alexis purely for the fact the least amount of people betted on him.

#36 Posted by Vyper (109 posts) -

It was a great event, however...there was a severe lack of Jeff yelling "THAT WAS A SLOBERKNOCKER" and other WWE phrases that for some reason I expected. Maybe they are saving that bombshell excitement for the next invitational!

This, except remove the word 'duel.'
#38 Posted by Bestostero (2758 posts) -

They did say that they would do more of these so lets keep our fingers crossed

#39 Posted by Conojo (143 posts) -

I watched it on archive, and had the ending spoiled for me thanks to twitter, but even despite that I still had way too much fun. Apparently GB's taught me I can watch both SC2 and now Mortal Kombat and be completely enraptured

Did they say who got the copies of MK? I haven't heard anything yet, and placed a winning bet : /
#41 Posted by Benjamimmy (565 posts) -

It was great fun to watch and would love to see something like that again, some time in the future!

#42 Posted by CptPanda29 (189 posts) -

I thought that it's just be pretty cool but ended up getting WAY into it.

Plus it kinda sucked when the MK snobs came in the chat, but just maxed the video and enjoyed it!
#43 Posted by Roasted (70 posts) -

One of the best things they've ever done, but Alexis wasn't a scrub at all, he gave Jeff a really good fight.

When Korey the intern said "full of win" all I could hear was "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhh".
If you look closely on Ryan's face, you can see his immediate subtle reaction.

We need community scrub league. I don't like playing online because Live is full of dicks and people who are way too good, but would love to get some casual competition going with like-minded people.

I much prefer this format to the current-wave of TNTs. Keeping it in-house is great.

They could even stretch it to the community if it was a league or tournament-style event, that way it keeps it focused.

Eff yes it was! I can't wait until they do another.

#47 Posted by Giacomito (208 posts) -

Loved it!
It was intense and awesome. It would be great if they did this like once a month or something (to keep the awesome production values as high).

Even though I am not a big fan of fighting games, I loved watching the MK Scrub League. There were some great moments where I was literally on the edge of my seat.

I would definitely like to see them do something along the same lines again, along with Dave's Radio segments, both were equally awesome.

Incredibly entertaining. One of the best events ever for GB I'd say. If they made this a weekly deal, or at least monthly, for members then my money is theirs!

It was super entertaining. Really hope this becomes a regular feature.
