Well, I don't think so anyways. The way the fatalities look now, i could easily see this game getting hit with the dreaded AO rating, effectively meaning they need to go back and clean the game up.

One of the goriest fighting game franchises returns to its roots, introducing a new story that re-tells the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games (with a unique twist).
This game will not be released in its current state
The only thing I heard of regarding the potential AO rating attributed to Manhunt 2 was that one violent kill they took out that consisted of tearing someone's scrotum apart, but I suppose there were other things they had to modify. But all of that's realistic.
Game's with dismemberment like Ninja Gaiden II don't have AO ratings, games with tons of blood like Fairytale Fights don't have AO ratings, games with intense violence in a cartoony depiction like Naughty Bear don't have AO ratings and twisted psychological horror games like American McGee's Alice don't have AO ratings.
I don't think that the gruesome fatalities in the game are enough to warrant it an AO rating. They'll definitely get an M for it, but not an AO.
Who cares if it gets an AO rating? Have someone get it for you if you're too young. Anyway... it won't get an AO. No way. Mortal Kombat is way too ridiculous and cartoony. No one looks at that stuff and gets traumatized. I saw some surgery on basic cable that scarred me far worse than any video game. If they really wanna give this game an AO rating, then I should never have to accidentally flip to a woman's snatch as she's giving birth on basic cable again.

But I agree, I don't think MK will get AO. The reason behind what happened with Manhunt 2 was the realistic brutality that was involved with all of the kills.
" @FluxWaveZ: What? That's ridiculous. Man, some laws are just crazy. "They aren't laws. The video game industry is self-regulated by the ESRB. They could release an AO game, but most retailers would not carry it.
" @FluxWaveZ: What? That's ridiculous. Man, some laws are just crazy. "It's not law. It's business. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony do not allow games rated AO on their respective platforms, and most major retailers refuse to stock AO titles. A relative few games are given PC versions that are "uncut" that can be ordered online, but that's about it.

The AO rating is basically a death sentence.
Hooooollly shit people. Hahah my inbox just exploded. Didn't realize my ignorance was so interesting.

Makes perfect sense. Just never really thought about it. It's really a shame that people can't put out the product they want without it being almost un-obtainable to the masses. Maybe if more game developers took a stand, we would start to see an "Adults Only" video game section of game stores. That will likely never happen, though, due to how much money they have to invest in their games. It's just not worth it for them. Still, though... just a shame.

...oh, sorry. I was listing off games that, by the OP's prerequisite, should've also had AO ratings slapped on them.
Mortal Kombat won't see any form of AO rating. There's nothing in that game from what I've seen that's any more extreme than the stuff shown in those games I mentioned above, let alone the first two MK games.
It's not an AO. AO is a lot more sex stuff.
Also, don't Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft not allow AO games on their systems anyway?
No they don't. The systems read the ratings and lock-out AO games. They don't even print AO console games because of this. That's why you will ONLY find AO games on PC." @Xtrememuffinman said:
Sure they do, but it's up to the developers of that AO game willing to find a publisher who will deal with the mess they've created. "" Also, don't Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft not allow AO games on their systems anyway? "
But what about Australia? Surely it wouldn't pass the OFLC in its current shape. And those Aussie edits tend to affect the rest of the world's copies in most games.
Did God of War 3 get edited down there? Or did they say "Fuckit! It's a PS3 exclusive which is open region by default, and people could just import the unedited version causing our economy to lose potential business as a result," ?
I think I've read somewhere that Ed Boon is working with the ESRB to help make the game. He wants it to be violent, over the top, and gory, but he does not want a AO. There's a partnership there that if something is too far the ESRB would tell him and he would have to either change it or alter it. Having the ESRB at your side would help a lot.
"How did Silent Hill deserve an AO rating?
