I pre-ordered the Tournament edition a few months back and I have to say that I am impressed with the contents. The arcade style joystick is no joke. Playing with it makes you feel as if you had skipped class and gone to the local arcade. The joystick is responsive. I was able to perform every fatality with ease and played for long hours without ever hurting my fingers. I must say that it’s a bit heavy but it makes up for it with a lot of padding on the bottom to ensure that the gamer is comfortable during gameplay. The joystick comes with a long USB cord that connects directly to your PS3 (yeah, I wish that it was wireless too.) As far as the design of the joystick….it’s just gorgeous. I’ve attached a picture of the joystick next to the PS3 box (killzone 3 edition). The box is a bit thicker and wider but the joystick is longer.

The game comes with downloadable codes for Ermac’s old costume, 2 themes, 3 avatars, and an “online pass”. Note that if you buy the game used you may need to buy the pass from the PS store for $9.99. You also get an additional retro costume if you buy it from Best-Buy = Sub-Zero, Gamestop = Scorpion, Amazon = Reptile, Walmart = Mileena, Toys R Us = Kitana.

As soon as you start playing you’ll notice that MK developers went back to the 2D gameplay but modernized it as well. I believe that makes it appealing for both faithful fans of Mortal Kombat and fans new to the series. The violence has been enhanced dramatically. I just couldn’t believe some of the combos that I was able to pull off with characters that most people don’t even bother to play with. That brings me to the Story Mode. It’s very similar to the Story Mode in MK vs DC where you get to fight as someone else in every chapter. This provides the gamer the opportunity to try fighting with different players. For example, I’ve never been a big fan of Sonya Blade. I just thought that she was OK and when it was time to play as her I was like “oh great.” As I was playing as Sonya I was thinking….damn Sonya is pretty SICK! Yeah, expect a lot of that from this game because some of the characters will surprise you. The Story Mode is by far the best Story Mode that the genre has to offer. I literally couldn’t put the control down. I just wanted to see what would happen next. The writers deserve a lot of credit for that.

I can go on and on. There are single matches, 2 vs 2, 3 and 4 player matches. Please keep in mind that if you are playing 4 players that each pair must be using the same console. I know, it’s kinda stupid but can’t have it all I guess. I love the fact that they brought back the “test your might” mini games. This makes the game so entertaining. Not to mention that you are awared “koins” every match depending on your performance. You can then use those koins to buy unlockables. That is pretty fun too. The bottom line is that this a great game and you’ll be spending a lot of time on it. It’s worth every penny to me.

Also if you don't like this review leave a comment telling me how to improve for the future. Thanks!   Most fighting game fans can probably remember which of the entries into the Mortal Kombat franchise is their favorite. However, as a close converse to that, many can probably also remember which one(s) are the worst. I don’t think its cliché to liken the experience of g...

Get Over Here...and play Mortal Kombat! 0

Mortal Kombat 2011 Mortal Kombat comes back strong and hard for its ninth installment titled simply Mortal Kombat. This game is somewhat of a reboot to the Mortal Kombat Franchise both in terms of story and gameplay; not only do you relive/change the events of the story for the first three Mortal Kombat games but it also returns to its 2D fighting style. The story begins after the events of Mortal Kombat Armageddon. As Shao Kahn is about to finish Raiden off, he sends a message to his past sel...
