    I like this game indeed.
The combat can be pretty janky, though.

@ThatFrood: I thought the combat was the one aspect of the game that was least Janky.

It's worth noting that this game has some of the greatest mods out of any game I have ever played.

BUY IT YOU SONS OF BITCHES!

    Sorry.........

Its really cool though.  The graphics give a really bad first impression, but its bug free ( For me anyways), has a huge amount of depth and a great amount of loot.  I've dropped a 100+ hours into it in the last year and a half.

Imagine Medieval 2 Total War in first person/third person view. It also has the largest mod community I have ever seen.

It's actually even better than that since in Total War 120 soldiers will act as a single entity most of the time, here 120 soldiers will act completely independently of each other.

@TheMustacheHero: Very satisfying combat, and it's like an RTS, but you play a commander, on the battlefield.

sorry, I shouldn't have said "combat", I should have said "the battles" can be janky. Like when you have to move up steep hills or you drop down vertically when you ride into a river.

@ThatFrood: This is completely fair. Hills give distinct tactical advantages, though. That cavalry that always breaks your line? Let's see what it does when your soldiers are on top of a goddamn mountain!

Just the variety of things you can do. When you have completed the games tutorial you are just thrown out into the world, there is no story. You just start riding your horse to a village or a castle taking on quest and gathering people for your army. You can also go and compete in a arena as a gladiator and get extra money and gold that way. Then it is the setting. just a normal medieval world, which is nice for a change. And as @Mmmslash: said before me there is a huge community around this game and a ton of great mods.

I hope some other people can answer this question aswell.

@Mmmslash: I agree! I always felt it was silly, though, when I would move up a hill but my character would remain perfectly horizontal, and just sort of walk more slowly.
Although, I found myself more often than not fielding an almost all cavalry army most of the time (fuckin' khergits, biiiiitches!)

But when I needed to storm a castle, I'd go over to one of my own castles, swap out my cavalry for hired blades and swadian knights (and those oh so wonderful nord huscarls) and storm that bitch.

The best swords and shields era combat mechanics of any game. This game needs to be watched by every single developer and implemented in any future fantasy rpgs, elder scrolls V anyone?

@ThatFrood: I agree. I haven't played Vanilla M&B in a long while, but I distinctly recall Khergit Horse Archers being assholes who refused to stand still long enough to die.

But those Swadian Knights... Man, talk about imbalanced units. The best Calvary in the game, and on foot only outclassed by the one other amazing unit, that goddamn Huscarl.

@DOUBLESHOCK: It's a competitor to Steam, only... not nearly as good.

I was going to chastise you, but now I just want to embrace you at the table of Mount & Blade brotherhood.

    @Mmmslash:
It may not have friends and achievements, but as far as actual digital distribution goes, Impulse its just as good as steam. Better, perhaps, because of the lack of "online/offline" mode bullshit and other complaints along that line.

Should buy from GamersGate when you can, however, because it is a much better service. :)

I'd rather not have to run a background application. Impulse is slightly less intrusive. GamersGate is great.
